This has worried me ever since I got my Charger..

The rear bumper brackets are so close to the fuel tank that it seems the slightest rear end fender bender would puncture the gas tank if those two small bolts sheared.

Well, I was rear ended once in a 69 Charger hard enough to fold the other cars hood and break the radiator, but mainly my valance was mashed and thats all. Thankfully. Bolts didn't shear either btw.

I wouldn't worry about it. If it was a problem Nader would have slapped it with the lable the pinto got!

i got rear ended a while back by a ford explorer. totaled the truck. only put a small dent in the tail panel and on the trunk lid. bumper never flexed.

My OE gas tank was caved in from a previous owner hitting something short and stout, but it wasn't punctured. They'll take a good hit without opening up.

would take more than a slight rear end collision.  I was hit hard enough to hurt my back in a 69 that i had, put two small round flat spots on my bumper extensions...   completely SCREWED the front bumper of a 90 ford f150.  seriously, it looked like he had hit two small concrete posts.

oh yeah, I let him drive away from it without calling the cops.  Back was sore for a few days, no biggie.  watching that truck follow me down the rode was priceless!!

Yeah I  saw it in Straford Ct in the late 80's and had a big laugh when I was behind it at a light. It was a restored
maroon 69 Conv. NADER  
Obviously still sticks with me decades later.
