I am flying out to Mich. tomorrow to check out/buy a '69 Charger R/T 440 4 speed car. I am nervous and excited at the same time. I will try to post pictures tomorrow after I check it out.
If the deal goes through, I hope to be cruising in it on my birthday (9/16).
Stay tuned!

I've done it in several states.  Just call the Michigan DMV and they will tell you how and what to do.  Some states have a 30 day tag and some have a transportation tag.  Weekends might be an issue.

Good luck!

Cool, hope the condition of the car stacks up and that you can make a deal stick.

Thanks to all for the well wishes!
I will try to figure out how to post pictures from my Droid after I look at the Charger. Iwill  have a little time hanging around before the return flight. That should give me time to figure it out. Otherwise, I will post them from my computer on Thursday if I can't figure out how to upload from my  phone.

Yes this is the car that was on ebay. It is in Detroit , at least for a few more days! I am hoping to have the car back home in Ct. next week.
This Charger was purchased this year at the Mopar Nats by the family I bought it from. It was brought to The Nats by a Wisc. used car dealer who took it in trade from a gentleman that traded it in on a 2008 Charger.
As I was told, the car was in Wisc. The guy who owned it had it, had the body work done (with Bondo) and painted some time in the early 80's. The original engine was rebuilt around the same time. The car was put away and sat until a year or so ago. The owner then put headers, complete exhaust with correct tips, new fuel tank, fuel lines and brake lines and sometime after traded it in.
The car is matching numbers. the engine, trans and rear are correct as are most of the components. The car came with the original (and near mint ) broadcast sheet. The car is nearly complete and missing only a few things. The interior is pretty decent with basically seat seam rips. The undercarriage is solid with only a few holes in the floors a small hole (dime size) in one of the t bar frames. It will need a trunk floor, 1/4 panels and some other various body panels in the future.
I plan on getting it home, insuring it, registering it and driving it while the weather is decent. It will be a great car to go to cruise nights with.
I am super excited! I have wanted a matching number 4 speed R/T since I was 13 ( I will be 47 in a week)!

I am floating on air. It hasn't really sunk in that I bought it yet, though.
I will believe it when the trailer arrives and I see her get backed out. I can't wait to drive her.
On a side note, I got a call from Mike (the son of the owner) ,who i had talked to about buying the car, while I was in the Detroit airport running for my return flight. He just wanted to call and make sure that I was happy with the car and that he had accurately described the car! This family has been great to work with and were extremely honest about the car's description. It was a very enjoyable buying experience!

My Charger arrived at 7:15 or so. By the time it got unloaded it was getting too dark to take any pictures. I will take some tomorrow.
I got the Charger into the driveway and I pulled the car seat out of the wife's 'Cuda and put it in the Charger. I took the family out for a cruise. It was fun! the car sounds great, rides smooth and the engine runs great and pulls hard. I need to pull the shifter out to be rebuilt. it is REALLY sloppy ( I was aware of this ). I have another complete shifter I will put in to use until this one is rebuilt. I forgot what it was like to drive a manual steering car. Its a little tough at low speeds but pretty good when moving. I think I am going to try to get an alignment tomorrow. The car pulls a little to the left.
I am thrilled with the way the car runs. There are a few small things that need to be fixed or adjusted. I will pick away at the little things a little at a time while I am driving it and enjoying it.

It has been a crazy few days. I finally got a chance to resize some photos of my new R/T. I got the car registered yesterday. I took my 15 year old with me. He loves the car. I am getting used to the car but I did do a little bit of seeing what she will do. The car runs really strong. I need to have the shifter rebuilt. It is really sloppy and it is tough to know if you are in 1st or 3rd. I banged second gear yesterday and the shift knob came off in my hand! I luckily had another one and I switched it out today. The clutch seems a little stiff and chatters when starting off. I will have to look into what is causing it. The Z bar looks like the bushing on the bellhousing side is either worn out or missing. There is a bunch of little stuff that is easy to fix. I am planning on picking away at all the little things that need adjustment or repairs while I drive it and enjoy it.
Here are some pictures. Enjoy!
