Teach me about '72 SE's

Been busy working on a '72 SE project lately that is 1/2 mine so to speak. I don't know much about '72s let alone 3rd gens. Looking to learn all I can! Production numbers, weird quarks, options, rareness etc

3rds gens are my favorite , some of the 6 pack & hemis as well as Super Bees had very low production #s
unfortunatly almost everyone views them as far less desirable ,even though they share a lot of the E body parts , they are far cleaner through the air then any of the earlier chargers & have a better ride

Well, the first thing I did was I get rid of that bogus quarter window....It has a ton of bondo from the factory that they used to fit that additional piece of metal in..That is why they covered 99 percent of these with a vinyl roof...BTW I love 71-72 Chargers alot, BUT going half in car is never a good idea.   Ain't you fixing up a '69 Charger also ?

My SE has that almost completely covered quarter window, what's the deal with those?  I think the angled look on most all other 3rd Gen Chargers is keen, why did they cover some of the windows up like that with a full vinyl top to boot?

Because at that time, they were trying to turn the Charger into more a luxury car then a muscle car. It was the end of the muscle car era.

Mine is staying as is, I'll be covering it back up with body filler, was just removing the slight rust that was there.

Yes, it's easy.  They are jusy spot welded in. The best part is you get rid of that ugly piece of metal and all the factory bondo, that is almost always cracked...You then can go back to a half vinyl roof or just paint the roof.
COLOR it anyway you want.

Why would someone change an SE to an ordinary charger? For me I would take a triple black 72 440 SE over any 71-74 Charger.

a lot of people don't like the modified rear windows.   I being one of them.
