Greetings gentleman.

Own a 77 Corvette and new to the Mopar scene.  Just picked myself up a 72 Dodge Charger Rallye. Factory triple black finish, Believed to be a One Of One special order.  Matching numbers.

Hoping you guys can help me out as I live in Australia.  It is fitted with a federal power steering pump and no surprise it has a buckled pulley. Press fit 3 spoke. Can anybody tell me where I can source one please.

I have tried all of the following:

bouchillonperformance.com
440 source
mancini racing,
year one
summit
jegs.

Summit seem to have and after market polished aluminium one but would prefer to stay original if I can

Any advise would be greatly appreciated

Original matching A833 4 speed incl. Pistol grip shifter the very rare super track pack option incl. Dana 60 rear end, also features power windows, power headlights, power disc brakes, power steering and the n96 ram charger hood scoop (which I believe was not supposed to be available in 72').

"In 1972 the muscle car era was winding down and hi performance was becoming a dirty word and with that in mind the 7 r/t was looking like it was going to be the last of the real hi-po chargers and the r/t logo was finished at the end of the model year. Fortunately 72' rolled along and the 440 was retained but now in a charger "rallye" but gone was the six pack option and grabber hood scoop (or so the brochures said) but a few 72's snuck through with the leftover performance options available in the 71' r/t's and this car is one of them."

Car is fully documented with build sheet, window sticker and all options are listed on the 2a original fender tags affixed to the inner guard. It is also documented by Galen Govier and is in the official Chrysler registry.

The things a man will buy just to have a glove box and a boot.  :icon_smile_big:

Welcome to the site. You have a beautiful 72! Congrats on the purchase. It was money well spent. 3rd gens are my favorite!

Cant help with the pulley. You may want to try asking that question in the "Engine, Transmission, Rearend, & Exhaust" section. Might get better response over there.

Incredible car, and super-rare as optioned. IMO - it deserves to have the grilles returned to the stock chrome and argent color pattern.

The ramcharger hood was available in 72, however just like the 440+Dana+4speed as your car is equipped, it was put on very few cars. It should be indicated on your fender tag as N96.

New to Mopar.  Can you give me more details on this point or point me to where I can read more on this matter.  I want to keep it as original as possible but with me living in Australia there is not much information locally that I yet can find.

your question about the pulley... let's start NORMALLY by those years the saginaw steering pump was pretty much the standard equipment being this the easier assembly to find ( also better performance ), although I have found the federals even on lates including locally ( Venezuela ). I checked on ebay and couldn't find any federal pulley replacement :( and dunno which replacement will be the best from those vendors.

That's what the grill is suppose to look like.  I thought that it was all black as part of the triple black finish.  Learning something new every day.

I'm quickly learning that this federal power steering pump issue is going to be a pain.  Haven't been game to drive the car much because of the buckled pulley and have not been able to source an original or repo pulley.  At this rate might have to swap to a Saginaw for ease of replacement parts.  Was so hoping to keep it as it as original as practicably possible.  Damm.

As far as the vinyl top, I'm vastly limited what I can do down here as far as supply goes..

Hood blackout?  vent gill decals?   Cant half tell that I'm very new to Mopars LOL!!

What does the triple black actually refer to please?

Thanks.  I'm pretty chuffed at having it.  It certainly turns some heads down here the few times I have taking it out

I'm guessing during the restoration that the vinyl top was not put back on.  I have to say that I am rather partial to it being all completely all the same black as is.

So whats this hood blackout, is that referring to flat black paint so to speak?

Appreciate the feed back and assistance to date gentleman.  :2thumbs:

Chryco Psycho

Yes Hood blackout is flat black over the bulge
I bet you rcar never had the vinyl roof , I prefer them without as well
the fender tag will tell if it had a vinyl roof

DR440

Ok I'll check that.  Thanks

Don't suppose you know what the option number is by any chance?

Time, The Predator That Stalks Us All

Chryco Psycho

the 72 tags are different than the 70 - 71 if your car was built @ the G Plant You should have TX9 on the tag twice once for body color & once for roof , vinyl would be Vx9 , usually on the left side of the tag 2nd & 3rd line up from the bottom .there will also be a 4 digit code for with  either X or X9 for the interior code

DR440

Thank you

It's 1.30am here so hitting the sack but will check it out tomorrow and report back.

Thanks for the help. :2thumbs:

Let us know what you find

I agree but as an Administrator on three car forums down here, and as your admins would know, it can keep you busy and be quite tiring.  This is the first chance I have actually been on a forum as a user.  It's nice to be on the other side of the fence for once.  LOL!!

I have so got to get my rear end over to the good old USA and get an education on these machines.

Will report back

If you send a photo of the exact pulley I will forward it to someone I know who is parting out nine 3rd gens.  I have to email him soon anyway.

I am hunting parts for my 72 right now as well. I did find that Bouchillon Performance has the Hemi style press fit pulley for a Federal style pump. They dont list any other press fit pulleys for the Federal pump. Could you have the Hemi style on your 440?

well I supossed the vinyl top because you said triple black, but if originally didn't came with black vinyl top is not a tripple black.

the door gills decals and flat black blackout hood over the bulge is just like this car:

Saginaw pump will require a diff bracketing

ACUDANUT

You are a Lucky man.  That Rallye looks like a real hard find, and worth a ton of money.  I'd say no to a vinly roof, unless it originally had one...My 2 Rallye's have a half top which helps give it a more color break up..
Post a picture of the pulley and we will see what we can find for you.
