A tarp in that sort of condition would make matters worse.  A tarp actually holds moisture in and would create a damp(er) environment that would make it rust even faster.  To really protect it, it needs to be out of the elements completely, in one of those car bubbles or in the barn.  Something.

And you can't tell me a tarp wouldn't have helped some of that deterioration.
It's not like it would have been wrapped so tight it would hold a lot it.
Just enough to keep the elements out .  Water likes to find it's way in everywhere , especially with clogged drainage from all the needles etc... that had founds it way in there ( since it wasn't covered     )

People do weird things all the time for attention. My wife's Grandmother would wait for her husband to go to work, then she'd get out a box or two of Entenman's cakes, make a pot of coffee, & put the "FOR SALE - OPEN HOUSE" real estate sign on the lawn to attract people inside. She wasn't selling the house, she just liked to sit down & have cake & coffee with people.

Wow, I didn't realize it.  But I hadn't been there in exactly one year.  Last year we had a serious drought though... this year, not so much.

$40k!?  Anyone who pays that much for a car in that condition is only promoting the Barrett-Jackson mentality.  I'm no expert, but that car needs most every exterior panel replaced.  I'm assuming the floors aren't too nice either.  If it needs rear frame rails...ho boy.  What do you all estimate?  $30k just to get it to a solid, painted rolling shell?

when these cars & barns sites came about , or should I say when I got my first computer ,   I use to spend hours looking  , & thinking wow , that's a shame &  that's nuts etc      but over ten years on  , im finding it even more  crazy , insane , to see serious mopar hardware like this left to rot , I know its their car  blar blar blar   free country  each to their own    but come on !! to leave it sitting out in the elements ,  sitting on dirt , just plain  disgusting!!  

 no offence to any owners of cars in barns type cars  reading this  , your car , but wake up before there is nothing left  to restore or sell

As rough as it is (and it's pretty bad), that car would bring multiple offers of 40k any day of the week.   Yes it needs everything.   It's still a numbers matching one owner Daytona.   Crazy huh?    Know of any other Daytonas available under 70k?      Didn't think so.

Hey Ryan have you ever come down near Madison Indiana to look at the cars off of the county road about 8 miles east of town? This guy (about 30 miles from me) has 20-40 old Mopars just sitting there off this little county road. I drove by there a couple of years ago and saw them but the rumor is the guy will shoot at you if you stop!. I am thinking about driving up there around Thanksgiving in the SUperbird if it is not raining to see if he will let me look while stopped instead of driving by at 10 mph.

It isn't as bad as it seems.  It was indoors for a few decades... to my knowledge.

And I have not been down by Madison, IN.  I have a friend through that knows the owner.  So I have an "IN" out there someday.  Unfortunately Magazine work pays pennies on the dollar.  So all my exploring is on weekends.  Someday in the future I will get down there though.

As far as I know, that car has been outside for years and years.    It was already in tough shape in 1990 or so when a club member sent pics of it sitting outside.  All that's changed is the location and the kind of junk around it.    Hasn't run since the 70's, right?

Condition wise, I think it's fair to say it's probably in the same ball park or worse as Mike Hill's white Superbird that Graveyard Carz is doing.   Certainly the right (brave) person could handle the job.
