How is Mass, NH, Maine Recovering?

Purely selfish question here. Don't beat me up, but I have to ask.

I have (had ?) a vacation planned in late September to Boston, southern NH, and western Maine. I want to spend my money and help the local economy. But is the area recovering?

The only news seems to be about Vermont and their disaster. Did the rest of New England and Boston actually escape Irene? Nothing on the net talks about any problems other than Vermont.

My heart goes out to the folks who are hurting. I contributed to the Red Cross, and have a friend in SAR who is there now helping. But I don't want to get in the locals' way, and it doesn't feel good to have fun if y'all are hurting in the countryside around Boston. Wouldn't be respectful to party while you are trying to recover.

What's the status?

I live in Southern Maine @ 1 1/2 hrs from Boston...We barely got touched, no real flooding, no real mess = the only thing that affected us was the power outages, thats pretty much all taken care of now!! The real problems due to rainfall and flooding are pretty much isolated to northern NH and Vermont. You should have no issues with a vacation to Boston !! ENJOY!!

Best 1/4 run so far 12.7 @ 108 mph

What Randy said.... Boston came through it pretty easy. Irene's main path was through western Mass/eastern NY, then went east into Vermont. They got hit real bad because of the flooding. The winds weren't too bad by then, but the rain amounts were horrendous.

In NH the west side near VT and the White Mountains took the brunt of the damage. Mostly flooding damage. A lot of the seasonal camp grounds that are located next to rivers really got hammered.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

PLEASE tell everyone that while there is some great devastation, in many places you would hardly know there was a storm.  Northern Vt and NH rely heavily on tourism this time of year.  You can still get to Ben & Jerry's, and most other tourist attractions.  The southern part of VT and Western MA got hit hard, with pockets of damage elsewhere.  If you do nothing else to help, come here for vacation!!!!

Thank you everyone for the updates. I'll keep the vacation as planned and do my share to pump the local economy.  :2thumbs:
