What's the difference between a teacake and a coffee cake?

Coffee cake would have to be coffee flavoured where as tea cake is lemon or vanilla flavored and can come in plain or fruit versions. Apple tea cake is very popular.
I think most traditional coffee cake, isn't coffee flavored, it has a dark brown sugar, Cinnamon & butter {others stuff sometimes too} crispy type topping on it, also a biscuit/Bis-quick type thicker, denser & heavier with a few eggs whipped up in it, type of cake batter base... no coffee in it, just made to drink with it... I make them allot for me & Pops now... easy peasy  :Twocents:

:scratchchin:   More than likely the names just originated from people  saying......would you like some cake with your tea? and/or would you like some cake with your coffee?  so they've become known as tea cake and coffee cake.
