This guy might be a bit too zealous with his pricing but I've just started getting interested in Route 66 memorabilia so I don't know if he's out of line. Is he crazy or is this the going rate?

This one is within reach, at the moment: http://www.ebay.com/itm/320746210483?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

Aside from these auctions, where might a guy find an authentic Route 66 sign? Tomorrow I'll be traveling down a section of US 66 in northern Arizona and I'm hoping to find something then but any insight from you peeps here would be nice.

I think the second one (cheaper one) is way cooler. Send a PM to ChargerSteve, he just got back from his 66 trip. http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=557

Buy a repro, throw it down in the gravel and drive over it a couple of times.

I've been picking up a few things including signs. I have few of them weathering outside. The goal is to plaster one wall with textured brick wallpaper, a few grungy signs and a 60's parking meter to make it look like a downtown alley. Maybe I'll even piss on the wall to get the complete effect   :eek2:

They're pretty easy to make in the paint program, then print them out. That would be really cheap.

That's not too bad. :2thumbs: How did you make the shield? I think it might be fun to make my own sign out of sheetmetal or aluminum; a nice big one.

By the way, here's one of the places I spent the night on my trip.

Well, it isn't too accurate & just done by eye from the 1st pic you posted. You can use the circle tool in different sizes, erase portions of it, copy & paste one half, then flip that half, move them together & fill outside the shield in black. I think you'd do better by finding a clear image of a real sign & printing it.

Or, use an actual sign company. We get catalogs at work for highway safety equipment all the time. We usually don't install signs, but hire a subcontractor to do it for the highway work we do. Here is a place I just googled that makes brand new highway signs. (Don't know anything about them, just an example.)

http://www.usa-traffic-signs.com/Highway_s/28.htm

A page they title as "Most Popular" has interstate signs.

http://www.usa-traffic-signs.com/Highway_s/28.htm?searching=Y&sort=5&cat=28&show=20&page=1

This is a page from their site showing a 24"x 24" state highway sign for $65.

I need to hammer out a few dozen of those, lightly paint them and throw them out in the woods for 20 years in order to fund my future retirement.
