Thanks. We were in our first of two weeks at the Outer Banks when we had to evacuate yesterday. We are currently about 160 miles inland at a Holiday Inn. We are hoping to get back to the beach house by Sunday or Monday.

I lived thru Gloria in 85 around here.   It passed over and by late afternoon the sun was out and people were walking around the mall wondering why all the stores were closed.

Irene is predicted to take nearly the same path...   I guess we'll see Sunday.      I'm still gonna batten down the hatches, etc.  and get some gas for the generator.

I'm just sorta glad I didn't pay upfront for the car show / bbq on Sunday at the firehouse or get lawn tickets for Stevie Nicks at Bethel Woods Sat. nite.

I forget what years they were, but there were only a couple of bad storms since I moved here in 1989. No damages for me, but the worst part was going without power for 5 days without a generator. Glad it was during the warmer part of the year or I'd have frozen pipes. I have a generator now & had to run it for 3 days with a bad storm just a few years ago. I'll be spending tonight & tomorrow making sure I don't have anything in the yard that will become a projectile if we get hit with Irene.

Also, fill your cars, and some gas cans.

Found out real quick after Rita that if your area is without power, you can't pump gas.

We just got back to the hotel from playing disc golf. I never heard of it before but it's pretty popular here in NC. It's the same as golf but you use a small frisbee instead of a club and ball.

Anyhoo...the first bands of rain are just hitting here now. It should be an interesting night and day tomorrow. We're in a pretty big hotel so we should be okay.

I've got 40 gallons of gas for my generator, tomorrow going to group the vehicles and trailers away from the tall pine trees.
News just said it will only be a tropical storm by the time it gets here, 40-60 mph winds. i'll probably be painting one of my apartments during this.
I swear the local tv news is hoping it turns into a cat 5. They keep yapping about what could happen if it get bigger.

Got the Charger up on jack stands in the garage & plastic bagged the tail pipes....sadly when there is 8+" of rain like last weekend this is what my garage looks like....

My biggest fear with this storm is losing power & not being able to run my main sump pump in the basement....I do have a small power inverter that will run a smaller transfer pump though...tested it out yesterday so I have a little relief

When we bought our house it had a 4k generator wired into the house with a transfer switch.  It works great and has a starter and runs on a huge propane tank out back.  I told my wife that 6 hp propane motor could probably run 24/7 for 5 years on that tank.  We lose power alot where we are and when they fill it once a year it's like 15.00.  The Charger is in it's AirChamber and hopefully no trees will fall on the garage.  As I was taking the picture the first rain drops fell.

Well, we woke up to a dark room with no electric this morning, which isn't a good sign considering that we haven't felt the full brunt of the storm yet. I went downstairs (we're on the sixth floor and used the stairs) to find out what was happening and the power came back on, thankfully. Just in case, I went to the Hess station next door and got some flashlights. We lost power again for about an hour and it came back on a few minutes ago, so I'm thinking this will be norm throughout the day. The wind is really starting to whip now. Estimating steady 30mph with gusts of 40-50mph.

The worst of the storm should be past us by tonight. Boy, I'm glad we evacuated. I'm sure it's not much fun on the Outer Banks right now...

That's a great idea to have it run on propane. I've never heard of that before. I will have to look into that...

My wife and I were joking this week. My wifes great great aunt was named Irene. She passed rather suddenly last fall.  She was one of the kindest persons I have ever known.

So heres to hoping this is just her stoping by and everything will be just fine.

Her husband of 60 plus years still lives in St Augustine Fl, and he is probably out on the beach with his arms out saying come get me Miss Irene.

Normally I don't worry about anything except making sure I have my gas cans full for my generator, but I moved my camping trailer this morning to a treeless area of my driveway. The usual parking spot is okay, but a tall tree on the adjacent property died recently & it's close enough to where it could hit the trailer if it fell or snapped. I have insurance but who needs the hassle? The tree looked fine last year, but it never bloomed this spring.

Yeah, and when I move out of here, it's coming with me.  I heard it's hard to find small propane run engines. Clean oil and combustion chamber all the time.

The power just came back on again after about a couple of hours being out. All the emergency lights here are on battery power, which is now depleted, so if we lose it again for too long, we will probably be sleeping in the lobby tonight. What fun!!

Got my 2 gallons of milk, 3 loafs of bread, 30 gallons of water, a gross of toilet paper rolls, case of chez whiz, a 24 pack each of A, AA, AAA, C, D, button, and 9V batteries. Generator and back-up generator in case the first one goes, 25 gallons of gas mostly in the gas cans but also in some old coffee cans that I had laying around, tied down the deck furniture, tied down the deck itself, taped up all the windows on the house, the car, and the laptop screen.

Forgot beer and had to go back to the store.  Got to the store and all there was left for beer was a 12 pack of Shlitz, a couple King Cobra 40s, and a case of Mickey's Big Mouth. I had to fight two old ladies in housecoats for them. My rock, paper, scissors skills again save the day. I won and got the Shlitz.

Seriously, threw a couple extra lines on the boat. Add a couple bumpers and threw an anchor off the other side to help keep it off the dock.

Tonight, heading to the Hampton Beach ballroom for the Southside Johhny show which is NOT cancelled. 

Most of the gusts we'll get up here will be coming from the freaking talking heads on TV.
