Cruise Nationals Semi-Finals this weekend - Update: The Charger won!! Pix/Vids

The Cruise Nationals semi-finals will take place on Sunday where I'll be going head-to-head with 60 of the top classic show cars in Ontario...On Sunday they will pick the top 10 to be displayed at the Canadian International Autoshow in front of 300,000 people and compete in the finals for Gold, Silver and Bronze.

This is huge for me and I'll likely be the only Charger there and one of a handful of Mopars. I'm trailering the car and staying overnight in a hotel.....just to add to the stress.

A 68 Charger won Bronze last year in the finals so that may play against me in that maybe they don't want another Charger on display...we'll see.

I guess I have a 1 in 6 chance of moving on to the finals. Wish me luck guys....I'll be "representing" the Charger faithful!!    :2thumbs:

Best of luck Don!

That car of yours is so beautiful they'd be stupid not to pick you. :2thumbs:

Well hot damn folks!

My car was selected as one of the 10 Cruise Nationals Finalists !!!!!!! My car wlll be displayed at the Canadian International Auto Show in February and compete for Gold, Silver or Broze Champion. The judging will be weighted 50% based on celebrity automotive judges and 50% on general public online voting. I was THE ONLY Mopar selected so I'll be calling on my Mopar brothers to vote when the time comes.

Getting ready to head out on the roadtrip.

Stayed overnight at hotel. Worst sleep ever! Kept getting up to check the window overlooking the car. My brother came with me so it was great.

The Cruise Nationals was held within the Autofest car show (about 1,000 - 1,600 cars...hard to tell as they are spread out through a wooded park near the lake).

Here is a short video I took of the various cars competing
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_QBB5uJbFo

When the announced the 10 winners I was stunned. I won $700, some special plaques, a folding chair and a garage heater among other things.

The 10 Finalists did a parade in front of spectators....that was wierd but fun.
Lined up ready for parade.

Here is video from our "in car" perspective of the parade of winners
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvHKXs3lsQ4

I then got interviewed by an automotive reporter for The Toronto Star newspaper and will be in an article in an upcoming paper.

We then did a photo shoot for the Auto Show and that was it. Whew. What a great experience.

Everybody tells me you can't tow that much weight with a Durango. How did it go?

The Durango 4x4 is rated at 7500 lbs with factory tow package and it tows fine. Get above 60 MPH and the trailer can get wobbly in higher winds. Otherwise no problem at all. Just make sure you turn off the overdrive on the Durango.

Dodge Don

My brother took some video of them announcing the 10 Cruise Nationals Finalists. It was cold as hell out and really windy...despite the forecast for a nice hot sunny day...so I couldn't take it anymore and put on my purple Charger racing jacket that I use as a prop at shows.

Congratulations on the win, I was going to ask a similar question about the Durango as I am thinking of getting a 99 with a 5.9.  I have heard a bunch of horror stories but am wondering if you have had a good or bad run with them?

Not to hijack this thread but I tow my enclosed trailer with my 07 Durango. No problem with pulling the weight but it can get a little harry when on the highway and a transport passes you. The short wheel base in comparison to a full size pick up truck can give you a uncomfortable wobble.

The Canadian International Auto Show guys contacted me yesterday about submitting my write up for the on-line voting website.

Caper....I don't get the Old Autos paper....when you are done with the paper any chance I could get you to cut out the ad and send to me so I can add it to my collection?? Send me a PM...gladly pay for shipping costs.

I will alert everyone when the on-line voting begins. As the only Mopar I will need help defeating the Brand X cars.
