Getting ready to buy my set of repro steel wheels and am not sure what size would look better with my tires.

I will be using 255/60/15's on all 4 corners. They are radial redline tires.
Currently I have them on 15x7's and they are fine. 255's call for a 7-9" rim width.

If I got the 15x8, I think it would make the tires more "squared" on the sidewall instead of balloning out.....but
with the 15x8 it would make the dog dish caps appear "deeper" in the rim no?

Looking at this pic of my other wheels you can see the 295's in the rear bulge on the sidewall where the 245's in the front are flatter...
Which would be the better look?

Opinions welcome

I like the bulge look i run 15 by 8 all round 295 50 rear and 245 60 front. Plus if you clip the kerb you save marking the rim.

I like 15x7 better. You get too much rimm look with 8s. Hard to see the center then, unless you look straight on.

Thats along the lines of what I was thinking myself :scratchchin:

How much rim will depend on offset.
Sure it's a inch wider, but the reality is about 1/2 to 3/4 inch is all you see at the front.

Not me. I like the squared off look myself so I would go with 8s.

This is a pic from Moparts of a RR with 15x8....I dont think I like the deepness of the rim.

This is a 15x7 (or 15x6) on this '69 (member baboyzn (sp?))

What to do what to do???  :rotz:

these are 15x6's
very wimpy looking

Chryco Psycho

just from the point of view of the tire alone having a rim in the middle of the accepted range would be better for the tires , beter footprint , more even wear etc , I would go 8s

We put 235 60 15's on 15x7's for the front and 275 60 15's on 15x8's on the rear of our 69 and they look balanced and aggressive.  :Twocents:

I prefer the flatter sidewall.  My 295's are on a 10" rim, and they have the same sidewall profile as the fronts which are 235's on 15x7's.  If they balloon out it looks to me they are on too narrow of a wheel.

I bet that has more to do with the offset than the width. A centered 15x8 would probably not look so deep.

What's wrong with the wheels that you have on it now?  :shruggy:  But if you are changing them go with the 8" wide.

Chris, if you plan on running the same size tire all the way around I like the 15x7 look myself. It sounds like you want to keep an original look with these steelies & dogdishes.

Maybe go with a wider deeper back spacing, you can have the best of both world the wider rim, for the squared side walls look & the shallow look of the std style wheel    :drool5:   most wouldn't even notice it unless your really looking for it...  :Twocents:

Thanks to all that replied!   I placed my order this AM with Summit Racing for a set of 4 15x7's....I wanted to keep a "stockish" look with these steel wheels.  For the non stock look Ill switch to my Cragars ;)

yeap... on steelies I think 7" are better "stock" look than bigger... any other ( but rallyes ) 8" is better options.

Rallyes also in 7" because bigger makes the trim to look weird, and reflection of inner cutouts doesn't make the full circle effect over trim.

Can you post the Summit part number for the 15X7's steelies that you ordered.  I'd like to look them up to see what backspacing, etc you decided on.

Just 6T9 CHGR

WVI-63-571204 is the Summit part #

They have 4" BS

Chrysler used steel wheels on a lot of their cars in the 70's that were 15X7.  I bet they were all the same backspacing.  Anybody have any idea what that might be?
