I have a 3..55  742SG in the car now. It has some wine at 55mph,light throttle. I have been thinking about going to 3.91 . I have an OD trans. I have a 3.23 489 open, a 3.23 741 SG and a 4.10 741 open.

Would you build the 489 or 742 or buy a new carrier?

What brand gears are quieter?

What parts would you upgrade for a mild build 440 street car?

This would be a winter project, just getting some ideas. If I do it myself,it pays for the tools and I will know how to do it.

I would be inclined to just order a complete center section from Cass ? Doctor diff with all new parts
If you build the 489 get rid of the crush sleeve & use a spacer & shims.
Any quality gear set should run quiet when set up correctly .
I would use a clutch suregrip

What is the advantage to replacing the crush sleave with shims?
