68 Charger, four brown wires go where??

68 Charger, incomplete rolling basket case that I'm reassembling.  I bought a new dash wiring harness from Year One.  I do have a used wiring harness for the car as well, but it wasn't in the car, so I didn't remove it.

Anyway, I was hooking up the wires to the back of my instrument panel.  In the same area of harness, there are four brown wires (one with a white tracer) that exit the tape in the same spot.  From my wiring diagram, I think the brown w/tracer goes to the side of the wiper switch, (1) in photo.  I think the two wires that were taped together as a pair from the harness maker (3 & 4 in photo) go to the back of the washer switch.  I have no idea where the wire (marked 2 in photo) goes.  The plastic clip on it has a semicircular slot in it, so it must fit a certain spot, but I don't see it mentioned in my wiring diagrams.

Can anyone help?  Thanks!  Mike

on a 69 !!

the brown wire  labled  2 is the power supply for the  windshield washer switch & brown wire (2) connects to the wiper switch  the  male spade terminal it connects to   will be left exposed  seperate once  you connect the   mulitplug)))),  if your unsure just un wrap the  harness tape  :yesnod: that (2 brown wire ) will just be in a U shape with another black plastic female spade cover !! & you will find that you have already connected that to the washer switch , by the looks of it ))) the three speed brown with white tracer resistance wire feels different , rubbery !! it not used with two speed wipers , its normaly just taped up out the way

I've read through the replies above.  Some replies make sense, some don't.  My Charger is a 68, with a 2 speed wiper.  I have the brown wire with white tracer (1) plugged into the side of the wiper switch.  The wires marked 3 & 4 are a pair of wires shop taped together, that seemed to go to the washer pump switch.  The wire marked as 2 doesn't have a tracer, but it has the odd notched plug.

From the replies, it sounds like the notched one is for a 3 speed wiper option, so I'll just tape that one up.  TanTop, I couldn't tell if your response was for 1969 cars or not, and you repeated the (2) wire in two different places.  I'm not sure what you were getting at.  My brown wire with tracer looked and felt just like the other three plain brown wires.  Also, my factory harness doesn't seem to have the white tracer, but it does have the same four brown wires (with no tracer).

yeah sorry it did sound a bit confusing , i was rushing  when typing sorry been one of them days  :icon_smile_blackeye:

was talking about what i had on mine  , a 69 but sure 68 is the same  !   brown wire with the notch cut out is the power supply to the  windshield washers &  that end plugs into the wiper switch to supply power to one side of the washer switch

will  take a picture later tonight of my original harness , have all the harness tape off that & it easy to see

Plans are useless; planning is indispensible.
Especially with an old car!

Do you have a service manual? If so go to the electrical section and review the schematic. That is what I did and figured out all my questions.

madmike

Tan Top,
Thanks for the clarification, that helped a ton!

Sixt8Chrgr,
Yes, I have a service manual, with the elctrical diagrams, but it wasn't helping me.  Maybe my reproduced copy is a little blurry, or my eyes are going bad...

Thanks for everyone's help though!
