damn it...this is the exact thread title I was gonna use.

But anyway...not to speak ill of the dead, but the dude was a dick in his later years, talking about how much he hated "Cherry Pie" (which made him millions), and even walked out of a Steel Panther show a couple of years ago because he didnt wanna go onstage and jam with them.

Well sorry but I liked Warrant's music. I met Jani several times and he was always cool, but he was always sober then. He hated The song Cherry pie so much because he was a much better song writer than that song. The Cherry pie Album was supposed to be called Uncle Toms Cabin. (which is a much better song anyway). I think he just hated that he was recognized for that song so much and he knew that Cherry Pie was not his best work so it just pissed him off that he was not given credit for his other songs. Sorry just my  :Twocents:

I always laugh when "Artists" writ a song like "Cherry Pie," the song gets huge, and then they get pissed off because they are everafter associated with the song.

I remember listening to an interview with Edwin McCain, and the interviewer asked him if the popularity if "I'll Be," ever made him hate the song...his reply was "Imagine winning millions of dollars in the lottery, and you frame the winning ticket and put it up so you see it every day, and, every day as you walk to your huge swimming pool, you look at it and say 'f*^king lottery ticket!'"

Okay, now even though the theme is similar, I have to give credit for SOME originality with this interpretation!

saw warrent at red rocks  here in colorado. worst band ever live. janie was drunk and sucked so bad people just left. its sad he died. but more sad he didnot care enough in life to stick around and raise his kid. sorry his career was short lived. but thats music. your only on top for a short time. they were at best a alright band. 1 good album. so many cant handle the loss of fame and just ride the self pitty train and forget there is life after stardom. but rest in peace. you will be forgotten real soon. sorry but have no pitty on a over dose. :shruggy: :shruggy:

ok, so my buddy texts me the other day and says "dude...I got free tickets to the Jani Lane Memorial Concert on Monday night (ie, yesterday)...you wanna go?" I figured what the hell and went. Besides, I heard that Great White, Quiet Riot, LA Guns, Enuff Znuff, Slammin Gladys (never heard of them before, but cool dudes) were playing - in that order, from headliner to opener.

I enjoyed the show, but it was sad for the reasons you'd expect and also for far more mundane reasons. Jani's brother and sister were there - he jammed on a few songs (dude CAN play guitar) and she read a poem. That was pretty sincere and moving. Most of the bands played one or two of their well known songs, maybe a cover, and the band members went on what seemed like hour long stories about Jani. Worthy of note is that neither Great White, Quiet Riot and a couple of others featured more than one or two original members. I was disappointed that neither band played their greatest hits - Once Bitten and Cum on Feel the Noise, respectively.

Then at the end, they did what was supposed to be an "all star jam" where all of these musicians would take turns and play covers of Jani's favorite songs. Unfortunately the dude from Enuff Znuff, who was supposed to sing most of the songs, was too effed up by then that he only made it halfway through a cover of Cheap Trick's Surrender before he threw the mic down and walked off stage. A couple of other dudes filled in on vocals, and it turned out ok.

But it was also a sad spectacle of sorts to see all the 80's hair metal burnouts, still wearing the same goofy rocker outfits from 1986 and sharing old war stories about the good ol' days "when real rock n roll ruled the (Sunset) Strip, dude". It's kinda funny and cool at first, but then you realize that a lot of those people NEVER moved on from that era and deep down are still waiting to catch their big break or, in the case of the women, make it onto someone's video.

Oh, BTW...at the end of the night, when the all star session had more or less fallen apart and the three guys left were just doing cliched Led Zep covers, some dude from some band I didnt recognize wanted to play Sweet Home Alabama and asked if there was anyone who could play it on bass (the bass player had already left). Short story long, I'm about to go onstage when the people running the show decided to put it out of its misery and cut it off right then and there. That could have been my 15 seconds of fame...

Several years ago, Don Dokken did a guest DJ spot on a radio station here in Charlotte.  At first, I was gonna change the station because, with VERY few exceptions, I couldn't STAND hair bands.

Anyway, I stopped because he said something very interesting (he seemed like a reasonably intelligent guy anyway).  He said that, if he had one regret, it was that he couldn't look ahead at what would happen five years down the road when his (and everyone else's) star faded.  He said (and I'm paraphrasing) "When you are surrounded by people who are paid to kiss your ass and say 'yes" to everything, you forget that you are just like everyone else."

I found that interesting considering how you see so many of these hair band assholes acting like its still 1988.

That is quite a quote. It says a lot about the man...
