Mr.Woolery

So yesterday after getting home from work, I hear the doorbell ring.  It's Ruby, my next door neighbor.  She's a nice little old lady who's been living next door to me ever since I was a little tyke.  She tells me that she has been waiting for her son to try to sell her old car, but he'd been dropping the ball on selling it for months...

...and that she didn't want him to have it...

...and that she wanted to sell it to me.

I told her that I couldn't possibly afford her car and wasn't really looking for one, but after she told me how much she wanted for it, I HAD to jump on her offer.  She knew the car was worth much more than her offered price, but she knew that I'd provide her old car with a good home.

This is what she sold me.  An original, survivor, 1950 Ford Fordor with a flathead V8, three on the tree and A/C!  Body is straight, no rust, no dings, dents, or scratches...just a little oxidized paint and worn front seat upholstery.  Here are a few pics of the car immediately taken after pushing it (it had a dead battery) from her garage to my back yard.  She and her son tell me it runs fine, just needs a battery to get it started.

The agreed price?  $1000!  Yep, that's ONE thousand dollars!  Amazing.

I have no idea how much this car is worth, but I'm sure it's worth a pretty penny more than what I paid for it. :)

This is a nice story. It would be very tempting to clean it up and put it up for sale. The problem with that is..... I'd feel guilty making a big profit and keeping it. I'm no bleeding heart type, but I have a soft spot for the elderly and their cars. If an opportunity came up to make a buttload of cash, I'd feel obligated to give the lady a cut of the take.

Nice looking car.

I'd keep it stock and cruise it around on nice days.

I'm thinking you might be disappointed in the performance of

the a/c, though....

That's not an a/c compressor on top of the engine...

That's the generator...

dang, it has the ultra mega rare dual upper radiator hose option........

nice deal. just don't tell me you're going to chop it up into a hot rod   :flame:

Holy crap, that is one cool stroke of luck! :2thumbs:
And yeah, unless it was a Caddy or Lincoln, the A/C option in those days was more of a swamp cooler thing hanging off a passenger window. ;D Man, are we spoiled these days.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Wow, that's a pretty good deal. You drive it to Ohio, and I'll give ya 2500 and a plane ticket back to wherever you live.  :yesnod:

Seriously, they are not big money cars but restored they seem to run anywhere from 10-15k. With the condition and the way it looks, you could stand to make a pretty good penny off of her.

Yeah, you could only get that with the dual water pump option.   :smilielol:

Mr.Woolery

Thanks for the ribbing about the A/C, guys...
Next time I'll do more in depth research before posting anything, lest I get flamed/assumed to be an idiot on all other aspects of the car for not being an expert beforehand.

I looked again at the under dash unit and it was labled "Magic Air"...I mistook that to mean it was an AC unit, but a little research revealed it to be a heater instead.  So, no AC (which was a mystery to me in itself because the earliest AC that I know of in production cars happened a few years later).
