Thanks! I love this stuff.

Is there a link you can post to your track, perhaps with the rules?

When we last raced 1/4 mile asphalt, the track champ was a 74 Charger, beating the entire field which otherwise was 100% Chevy's (including us). I ended up donating a complete running 74 Charger (SE 360/727 sunroof car) to the guy for parts just so I could keep watching that Charger beat our ass

salem, indiana?  high banked i think?

looks good, post some pics of the cage and how you tied it all together if you have some.

BLACKWOLF

SURE WILL, THEIR WEBSITE IS WWW.SALEMSPEEDWAY.COM, I CUT OUT THE INSIDE OF BOTH ROCKER PANELS AND RAN 2 X 3 1/8" TUBING DOWN BOTH SIDES. I THEN WELDED 4 MORE PIECES FROM THE TUBING OVER TO THE ORIGINAL FRAME IN FRT AND REAR. I THEN WELDED THE CAGE DOWN TO THE TUBING ALONG THE SIDES. NO BODY FLEX AT ALL. HAD TO WELD THE TRANSMISSION AND TORSION BARS FLOOR BRACE TO THE TUBING. HAD TO HAVE A FLOOR JACK UNDER THE FLOOR BRACE TO KEEP FROM FLEXING OR TWISTING WHILE CUT IT LOOSE.

That looks like it would be a total blast to drive! I always thought the 3rd gens made better stock cars anyway. Just ask Richard Petty!

Great American Stock is the class?

Excepts from the rules, clearly only meant for Chevy's (as usual):

Bodies 4. Deck lid may be no lower than quarter panels at any point.  - Huh? I guess you are going to have to peen down the peek atop the quarters.
Engines 4. No shaft type rocker arms.  - Looks like you should just go ahead an run a de-stroked hemi?
Engines 8. DISTRIBUTOR HEI type with stock appearing cap and coil only. - Uh, do they make conversion kits to fit a Mopar?

Are they going to allow you to run the Indy heads, or am I reading it wrong?

Good to see a Mopar out there doing battle against the odds. Good luck!

HAVE ALREADY TALKED TO THE HEAD OFFICIAL. HE HAS GAVE ME THE GO AHEAD TO RACE IT THERE. IT HAS A DUI HEI MOPAR DISTRIBUTOR IN IT. AND I CAN RUN THE INDY HEADS. SPENDING THIS WEEKEND WELDING IN THE BARS THAT GO FROM THE CAGE TO THE RADIATOR SUPPORT. THIS IS MY 3RD. TRY TO BUILD ONE OF THESE CARS. MY FIRST 2 CARS WERE TO FAR RUSTED TO ATTEMPT IT.

IF I CAN MAKE A REAL COMPETITIVE CAR. MAY DECIDE TO RACE IN A FEW FRANK KIMMEL STREET STOCK SERIES RACES. THEY RACE AT KENTUCKY, NASHVILLE, ROCKINGHAM, AND BRISTOL. CHECK THEM OUT ON YOUTUBE. THERE IS A GUY RACING A RED 71 DODGE CHARGER THAT IS DECALED LIKE BUDDY BAKER'S K&K INSURANCE CAR.

Very cool. I raced a couple of 71 Plymouth street stocks back in the early 80s. This was when these cars were easy enough to find I chose these because they had more front bumper than thr other years.

One big advantage you will have are brakes. The mopar 11.75 rotors are massive compared to most GM offerings you and you will find you can go deeper in to the corner for longer without fade compared to others. Talk to Firm Feel about getting a good compound pad for them and make sure you duct fresh air in to them too.

A big disadvantage you'll have, particularly on a high bank, is torsion bar rates. The biggest t-bar you can get, if you can find them, is 1.22. This is a 400# wheel rate, or roughly the same as a 900-50# chevy spring. If the leaders in the class are running rates higher than that, you may be giving up cornering capablity. With a high banked track, high spring rates are usually the norm. One way around this may be to deeply research soft spring, big bar suspension set ups and see if there is a way you can emulate these set ups with stock parts. Hint, I was able to get around a stock parts only rule in one class by doubling up sway bars to get higher rates.

Another big issue to correct on a mopar, bumpsteer. Correcting this will make you faster and more predicatable . Good read about that and upgrading to C body rotors here. The thicker C body rotor is even better at oval track than the B body 11.75.

Good luck, keep us posted on your progress.

HPP: Was that #48 car a dirt car?

BLACKWOLF: The car will look like the black/yellow model I suppose? That's going to be a good looking car.

Nope, both of mine were asphalt cars. The red one was my first car, so I was jacking wedge in to it until I figured out the changes I needed on the t-bars.

It just dawned on my that your building a '74, duh. That means your even more limited by t-bar selection than I originally thought. The biggest bar you can find is 1.18 with 312# of rate. You might need to talk to Dick Ross at Firm Feel about what he can do to make you some t-bars that will allow you to be competitive in class. One possible advantage is that the '74s use a different upper control arm than earlier mopars. You may be able to adapt a chevy tubular upper arm to your mounts without violating the stock mount rule. If going this route, use a 63-71 chevy truck ball joint as it has the same taper as the mopar spindle.

It also appears your using the stock location engine mounts. Verify they are in position to allow you maximum engine set back according to the rules. If not, move em.

yes, the paint scheme is a tribute to my high school classmates, especially, for the ones we have lost in the last few years. it is for the class of 84 from smith-cotton high school of sedalia, mo. thanks for the great advise. it's greatly appreciated. oh, if you go on salem's facebook page and look under videos. there is a video in the fanvideos of me racing at the high banks of i-70 speedway in odessa, mo. back in 2001. i was driving the #54 olds cutlass street stock at the time..
