I might be wrong but I am almost positive that they are.  They both use the bolt in type handle.

The hurst mechanism in my 70 Charger is a slip in.

They are different.  I referenced the shifters in your other thread on this.  The three shifter fingers are longer.  You can put the handle in and see, you fingers will be up against the dash.

You can narrow the handle a little slide it into the shifter & drill a hole where the dimple is & insert a bolt through the handle to retain it in the shifter

If the shifter mechanism was from 2006, then it would be the bolt-in type.  Like Chryco Psycho said, you can alter a slip-in handle if you have one or just buy a bolt-in.  I am pretty sure it will still go into gear, you just have to palm it and watch your fingers.  You will need the handle either way, unless you opt not to do it.  So, you could just try it if you have one.  Worst case scenario, you have to buy the correct shifter mechanism and still use that handle.  Even if it will shift OK, what would be the point, you would have to hold on to the shifter arm at a lower point or palm it, which wouldn't be great to drive all the time IMO.

yep. i have asked my question to a guy on ebay who sell all the hurst stuff.. and his answer is the same... the pistol grip will fit on my mechanism but i must check my hand ... i will perhaps knock it on the dash in 1 and 3 gear...anyway i will try it when i will receive the pistol grip in arround 2 week... if it doesn t work good, i will perhaps buy the mechanism for 70 pistol grip...

for change the mechanism , i must remove the tranny from the car? or it can be change on the car via the hole in the floor?

You can change the handle from the top via the hole.  You do not have to remove the tranny to swap the mechanism, but you will need to do it from underneath the car.  You will also be adjusting the linkage to the tranny underneath at that point.  Good luck.

ok thanks a lot! i will check if the pistol grip fit on my mechanism.. and if the pistol grip don t fit, i will perhaps leave my car for this year with the corect 69 shifter... and wait until next year for make the convertion . anyway it will probably fit but i will perhaps knock my finger if i shift too aggressive :)

The '70 B body Hurst mechanism is a one-year-only and has a shorter throw than the '68-'69. I put a '70 B body pistol-grip handle in my '68 RR (on the left in the pic below) and my knuckles could contact the dash on a hard 2-3 shift....changing to the '70 mechanism (on the right in the pic below) gave lots of clearance.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Yes, the pistol-grip handle plugs into the '68-'69 mechanism without modification.

finaly i have installed my pistol grip into my bolt on mecanism. But i knock the shifter on the console plate when i shift the 4th gear and the second gear. and when i shift the first gear, some time because of the weight of the shifter, it goes to neutral.....

so for the look it is number 1 !!!!! for the driving feeling it is 0 :)
