Please post pics of your tail art (differential housing markings)

I'd like to see some pictures of the factory markings on people's diff housings. I have to assume that some of them would be similar to others on this site since one person was likely to be marking mutliple housings. Mine looks somewhat complex and it appears to have been made with a paint brush since there seems to be what looks like a run. If it is a run the run itself is odd since the housing would have to have been upside-down for it to run that way.

So what is this stuff? I can't believe the yellow is tire chalk because it's nearly bullet proof. The pics I took of mine below were shot after I wire-wheeled part of it and I saw no effect.

Also, were they marked off the car or after they were installed?

Probably marked off the car.I'm sure some of the codes would I.D. each assembly for each build.

The B = B-Body

The Assembly date is between the U-bolts.

The rear ends had all the war paint on them before they went on the car.

8-3/4's can have tons of markings......Dana's  - Not near as much

Looks like most of a B.  It means B-Body.

I have 70 E-Bodies (for instance) that have F E on them.....F= F Series (1970) and the E for E-Body. 69 seemed to use the B for B-Body.

Yes - This should go in the drivetrain section.

 my 69 has what looks like a b  on the housing  under the white paint the former owner painted on it  so what is correct black with the big b showing or just paint it black and forget it

I could be wrong, but I seem to remember that the "O" was for an open rear and if you had an "O" with an x or / through the "O" it was a sure grip.

Thanks for the pics, guys. So if I were to guess (which I am) I'd say these markings were applied with a paint brush. Or maybe a combination of chaulk and paint. Is that the case? For those of you who have tried to replicate the markings after painting/powder coating the housing did you use paint or what?

forgot i took this picture , when i striped mine down to do the resto

this    was the only  paint mark/dabs on mine  !!   , letter B  original axle !  car SPD of  novenber 22nd 68   3.23 gears  no sure grip

My "O" looks white and it looks like paint. The "X" is obviously tire chalk/crayon.

The 68 Runner on that site has a D on it as well. That's at least 2 68's with a D - so I guess the 68 thing was the year/series and the 69 thing was the body style.
