Safe maximum rpms?

318/390 stroker.
What would be the max rpms this engine should safely see?

It would be nice to know how the engine is built. You know, crank (cast/forged), rods (cast/forged), pistons (cast/forged/hyper), bottom end fasteners (stock/aftermarket), bearing clearances, oil pressure. Head gasket thickness, camshaft, lifters, valve springs, valves, rocker arms. What age (how many miles) on the assembly? Do you want to run sustained high RPM or brief spurts? Stock 318s have blown up on the highway at 3,000 rpm and stock cranks/rods/pistons have survived at 8,000 rpm on the strip. It all depends.........

Cast crank, forged rods, HK pistons, ARP fasteners, without going into all the details I'm just wondering because I'm switching out my 600 carb for a 750.
I've always shifted about 5000-5500 rpm at the track but would like to take advantage of the higher end with the bigger carb, say around 6000 rpm maybe a touch more.

Oh, the bottom end is safe there. If the cam and valve springs are up for the additional rpms, go for it.

Wow what a difference 150 cfm makes.
Used to be from a stop it would smoke the tires until it hit 2nd gear, now it smokes the living sh#t out of them while going sideways and a nice loud chirp into 2nd.
But the big improvement is that its pulling hard above 5500 rpm. Before it would fall flat around 5500
Can't wait until I can spring for the new Edelbrock heads and a nice cam.

Richard Ehrenberg from Mopar Action would say.....
"Exactly ONE rpm short of blowing it up."
