Anybody Else Burned Out? I'm Going Camping

Yeah I'm ready to kill some paper targets.

Took the wife out to a farmers orchard in Brentwood today to pick some peaches.
We also stopped a few tomes along the way and got some fruit and vegtables at some road side stands.

we did go camping in the heat here near st.louis in illinois. a bit warm, but a great weekend. golf car cruising through the night. it wasnt too bad. kept the cooler close. cooked a pork loin on the bbq grill with potato and mushrooms. then  made pizza on the grill sat night.hope your camping trip was as nice as ours.

I feel way better. It's Monday, back at work. Refreshed. Great camping weekend.

I was in the Army in the 80s. That was my first experience with camping in a tent.
I can see how it could be fun sleeping in a nice RV or Pickup truck camper, but sleeping in a tent again? I just can't see me working all year to pretend that I'm homeless.

In the Marines, we just slept without any protection most of the time.  Sleeping in the cold rain was the worst...Or wait...in the Jungles were those damn mosquitoes and the heat that would not give you a break...God I do not miss those days in Hell.

Oh, you mean the skeeters the size of humming birds or the dredded "2 step" green bamboo viper? Yep, shit sandwiches.

I try to not re-live those days in the military.

Now a days with the wife its hotels and motels, I get the evil eye if I even mention a motor home or trailer. I think the gates of hell would open up if I even uttered the words "tent" out of my mouth.

I picked up a really nice tri-tip yesterday that I'm going to grill this week along with some fresh corn on the cobb.
My own little corner of tranquility, at least for a few hours.

I don't know about anyone else but I have seen less mosquitoes this year than I ever had. I had 176 hours vacation and managed to go camping a couple times. I prefer to camp below big water dams this time of year when it's hot. It is a lot cooler camping by 50 degree water.

Yes, Tablerock & Bull Shoals as well. I recently was at Grand Lake OK and it was like 100 out but was great right below the dam on the river.

Is there still a trade embargo with Cuba resulting in big fat cuban Cigars getting hard to get hold of, or just available anywhere?

Yes, no cubans, legally. But what are called cubans are everywhere. I doubt they are the real thing, likely all counterfeits.

I know people who bring them into the US from Canada for personal consumption. But they don't seem anything better or worse than any fine cigar from Central America or the island (DR). Meaning they are good. One day we will see lots of cubans, great ones and run-of-the-mill. I maintain they won't be any better than the great ones from anywhere else.

Example: Partagas Black is awesome, from the Dominican Republic. CAO MX2 uses tobacco from 5 countries, including Brazil. CAO Italia is my favorite, and it's from Italy of all places.

Anybody interested in a cigar thread? I'll post a starter thread if folks are into it.

Ok, Im due a trip into town to go to Havana house , one walk in big humidor of a store, yeah , put up some of your favourites .
Just a monthly or so treat for me so I usually get something worthwhile.
Can sit out on the deck with Tubular Bells on and a red wine and a cigar. Works every time . Cheers

a friend of mine came back from mexico with some cuban cigars in his luggage and they stopped him and had him sign a consent letter saying he was giving up ownership of the cigars and that this was the end of it. yesterday he got a letter in the mail from the courthouse of st.louis saying he has a court date set for illegal transportation of a banned substance.

i cant go camping this weekend, the lake i live on is having lakeapalooza with lots going on. 5 bands playing at the "tiki bass bar" on the water. so we all get on our pontoon boats and watch the bands play. my kid sings for a band called "no holliday" which will be the 4th band playing. so saturday will be full.
