Can anyone give me a quick idea of what's involved in changing from a manual to auto on a 1970 Charger ? Cost etc, thanks

Since the auto-to-manual seems to be more popular, you might be able to find somebody to swap for free.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

I was just thinking about swapping my 727 auto to manual. My trans is rebuilt and runs well. Lemme know

Gonna need:
Trans and torque converter
Flex plate
Linkage
Steering column or floor shifter

Get rid of
Trans and bell housing
Clutch and pressure plate
Linkage
Peddle
Shifter

Kind of a quick list, probably missing detail

I was going to say the same thing.  I searched 7 pages for a quick list for you, all conversions were the other direction.  I just finished mine going to manual. So, I will make a list from my leftover parts(keeping them, sorry).  Crossmember is the same, so that helps.  You can also run your column, unless you want column shift, which you could still buy pieces to convert.  The list is definitely shorter going to an auto.  I would add floor section(not reproduced, could be patched up depending on pref.), flywheel, tranny lines and carpet to the other quick list, off the top of my head.  If you are converting a console, those parts are where you could spend a bit of money on main console body, top plate and shifter.  A swap would def. be a good solution, assuming both cars have all the parts and are in good shape.  Especially, since you could both test/see it run, in the above offer, assuming distance is not an obstacle.
