Just point me straight to the "1967 Charger hidden headlight tech" threads.  :'(

Yes, I bought a 1967 Charger recently, I'm in the process of tossing a mill into it and trying it out on the road, hopefully this summer...
It will be a 440 for now... 727 auto and 4.10 gears.

Hi Charger guys!

Welcome! Im sure you recognize me

But of course!

Hi Charger guys! It will be a 440, 2x4bbl (yeah, I'm stubborn that way) 727 auto and 4.10 rear. It's got super stock springs and 12.50 ET Streets, hopefully it will come out of the hole decently. The engine won't be a mean one, it will see street duty and weekend strip time.

Who here designed the headlight system??

:shruggy:  :shruggy:

I don't even know yet Bob!
I got my engine out, then noticed the headlight doors were opened. Phoned the last owner, he said they never closed. I can slightly move the two doors by hand, seems like there are microswitches for each door? We tried powering the motors but didn't get very far!
My priority is to get up and running again, but then I'll be getting on the headlights I'm sure!!
There is an unplugged relay in the glovebox area, also, I'll try to get a pic. If it gets plugged in it tries to drain the battery in a hurry!
I've owned lots of B bodys, but never a first gen Charger. It will be a learning curve for me for sure!
Gorgeous car Bob!

You will find that the headlights and the dash gauges and lights are the most unique but troublesome on these cars (I had to fix them both on mine). The headlight circuits have two motors, four limit switches, three relays (the ones you mentioned, open, close & control), a circuit breaker and a "hold open" switch. Fixing the lights is a process of elimination. It's easy to test the motors. That's where I would start. It's usually bad motors or relays...or both. Pretty much everything to rebuild the system and get it working is available.

The dash lights are electroluminescent, not bulbs, so if they're working, great. If not, there are people to help.

Nice car! Looks like it's set up as a track car?

Bob

Pretty much. It has a full interior, it's never really been taken apart. Still has all the sheilds and inspection covers undisturbed.
It's (strangely) a PS manual brake car, it's originally a 318 auto, column shift car. It has a front disc brake conversion, big fuel lone, electric pump, long wheel studs, driveshaft safety loop etc... so it was intended for some street bruising. It has an adjustable pinion snubber, can't say I have ever run one!!!
The engine will be 9:1, it has a 525 lift hydraulic, ported 906 heads, Hedman hedders, CH28 and two Edelbrock 500s, a 2500 or so stall, it should go OK for now...? Maybe some cubic inch courage under the hood down the road?
;)

Ha! Looks familiar!

Your motor sounds like it will be stout! Mine's getting rebuilt this winter...looking for 450-500hp.

I have a Jensen with a 440, CH28, two Edelbrocks etc and LOVE it. The drivability is awesome, and it pulls pretty good top end. No idea of the power output but it sure SEEMS strong...

Cool! Love the Jensens! What year?

It is amazing how well they drive with the two Edelbrocks...mine's the same. Very well mannered. And it gets pretty good mileage too (not that it matters much with these cars). We got about 13mpg on the way back from Carlisle (250 miles).

1974 - and I can NOT believe how good my Jensen is on fuel either!
I recently went to our B.C. AirCare emissions testing, and was completely surprised to see "fuel consumption" at the bottom, which must somehow come out of the exhaust analysis- it came back at 11.8 litres per 100 km! LOL If that's right.... I'll be running 2x4bbl intakes on everything!!!!!

Hi MoParstuart!

How do you like the 3.55s Bob? What size tire are you running on the rear?
My Interceptor is 3.08 gears and 235/60/15 tires (26" tall) and it's about right for street driving for me.... the 4.10s are decent for dual purpose, but I'll probably switch out to something more highway friendly down the road. I like driving!! ;)

bobs66440

I am running 245/60-14s and the gearing is pretty good. It's a little revvy for my liking at highway speeds though. If I had a choice I think I would switch to 3.23 because I do a lot of cruising type driving and not a lot of stop light sprints. I think that would be perfect. But that's just me. The 3.55s would probably be just right with a taller tire though.
