69 Dreams

My story in short form, I hope...Like most young boys during the DoH era, I dreamed of owning a Charger.

Finally, in maybe 2006, I wheeled and dealed (approx. $2500) and came home with a 68 on a rollback.. after giving up on a 69 that was cliffhanging and the owners wouldn't budge on.  I tried for that thing for YEARS!   (My brother caught a glimpse of it one day, off a back road while making a delivery.  It wasn't the only one I'd chase after over the years but the one I seemed to want the most for some reason.)
I'll never forget the look on my kids' faces when that (68) "heap of junk" pulled up to the garage on the rb--they were expecting a completed GL.

I became friends with some good old boys that are self taught builders/mechanics. (I knew my way around vehicles and all things that go, but nothing like they do.)   They are pure 100% Mopar men.  So my Carlisle trips began.

We started working on converting the 68..then some bad stuff happened with the family of the 69 and I jumped on the opportunity to try my luck again.   FINALLY, came home with the 69 for $500.  I was handing over $100 bills so fast cuz I was worried he was going to change his mind!

So I included some pictures from the retrieval.  (That tree is all that saved this car from that cliff..and it's root seemed to have kept it from sinking all the way under.)

It's been a long process...been doing some side jobs for other fellas to contribute to by restor fund, lol.  Not to mention some mud trucks and boggin' lately.  But it seems after this last trip to Carlisle, I am about to put it all together.  (Minus the Vectors, stickers, and a new windshield.)

It might not be for everyone but it's been my dream and wanted my kids to have their hands on helping along side me.  Nothing's been shipped out, it's all in house work from some average, blue collar guys.  (Not that I'm knocking others that can put out the $$.)

Yeah, for now the 68 is sitting..Not sure of it's future right now.  Like I mentioned in the drawn out story, $$ has been the need and that's all going to the 69 right now.
