New Challenger Police Cars...

Those look nice but I really think this is a huge waste of money. I don understand why gov feels the need to buy new vehicles all the time. Here where I live the county has brand new superduty trucks, every year  when new one comes out it seems like they upgrade their whole fleet.

Now if you look at a company like AT&T or some of your electricity providers, they still have trucks from the 80's and just have a few brand new trucks. If you are trying to gain profit and not waste money, they buying vehicles every year probably isnt the best way to to that.

This all still doesn't change the fact that those are bad ass

I agree with XB.
Replacing the fleet every year or two is a cucumber in the ass to the taxpayer.

It's called stimulus money.

Your government saved the economy by throwing money at new cars and trucks even as the employees get furloughed and laid off.

Cucumbers indeed.

Leaving out the comments on modern times, yes, they are cool cars, 165 mph. Wow.

They sure look good but I suspect they have the same very tight space constrains for all the electronics as the new sedans (4 door Charger yeeeech) do. If I was a police officer I damn sure wouldn't want to have to get out and open my trunk to retrieve a long gun in an emergency!
Wouldn't surprise me if these too go they way of the 5.0 stangs.  :Twocents:
FLY NAVY/Marine Corps or take the bus!

Brock Samson

 They are a lot larger then the Stangs' and I like how they said they use them for "First Responder" vehicles..
BTW the SRTs' have 175 Top MPHs..

ChgrSteve67

The ones I have seen are pretty much show cars for the department. A supervisor or Leut is always driving them around. They definately are not setup to be persuit cars like the cameros and mustangs were.  In my neck of the woods everytime the departments give a partol officer a real hot rod to run people down they end up almost killing themselves, wrapping the car around a pole, putting it in the ditch or hitting a inocent by standard at a very high rate of speed.

They don't need a 200+ car to catch imports street racing.

That's not necessarily "real world". At least not on a bone stock car. I know guys who've run the Mojave Mile a few times in significantly modded SRT Challys (superchargers, aero stuff) and it was a chore just getting to the mid 170s - in fact in one run the front spoiler flew off the car. That guy did eventually get to 185, but you get my point.

The RCMP back in the very early 90's (maybe late 80's) in Kamloops ran a modified 3rd Generation Camaro on a local highway to catch speeders. The RCMP dubbed it the Interceptor as a tongue in cheek to mad max. I remember the first week they owned the car someone jacked the car up and stole all 4 wheels and left the car on blocks.

Yeah,. the reviews of tested '11 SRTs state that..

They're all cool cars, but I think "interceptor" cars are obsolete nowadays. I just dont see the need for a special cop car when there are police and news helicopters and all sorts of other things that make it pretty much impossible for a guy to get away.

I realize that I speak as someone who lives in High Speed Chase city where news stations have at least 2 choopers each and the LAPD has the largest police air unit in the world just waiting around for one to happen, so it may be different in a remote location where there are a lot more places to hide...

Around these parts it's not too hard  ;)

If they don't see your plates or you are running fake plates, don't have a overly unique car, and as as long as you can outrun their cars, there are many side roads along the highway that you can disappear on.

Sounds like a good theme for a movie, only let's use an old yellow Charger........

And the Chally does look pretty awesome

Its NOT a Chally.
Would you call a Charger a Chargie?
Would you call a Duster a Dusty?
How about Valley instead of Valiant?
Corny instead of Coronet?

It looks good!

But only one thing....where do they put the donuts?  :icon_smile_big:

Well if this bothers you guys (ie abbreviating Challenger to Chally), then you wouldn't want to come to Australia you'd have a stroke   :nana: :rofl:

Here's a couple of examples:

Darren = Dazza

Sharon = Shazza

Barry = Bazza

John, Jonothan etc = Johno

Lady, woman, chick etc = Shiela

Man, = Bloke

Australian = Aussie, Ocker

Farmer = Cocky

I will now endeavour to call a Chevy now as Chevrolet just so I don't offend  :nana:  :smilielol:

Sooo, how would one expect to abbreviate "sourpusses"...............................................
sorry, too easy not to bring that up..carry on.

On the related note, We have all new Chargers in my small town as well, though seemed like a waste of money, I will have to admit they do look sweet, and make for a nice conversation piece when the one tourist rolls through every six months. :icon_smile_big:
