Egged out upper rear shock mounts

I was under the Charger last night taking the rear end apart and noticed that the LR upper shock mount holes are egged out pretty badly. The RR upper is in fair shape but tat left one is pretty hammered. Do I need to replace that whole crossmember? Do they even sell them?

Yes, AMD sells them.  Mine were the same from years of airshock abuse :-\  While I had the quarters and trunk floor off the car I pulled mine off and welded in hardened washers.  New, they are around 250 bucks.

I found them late last night on Ebay. Thanks. The washers idea came to me too but how do you do that without needing a longer bolt? Or do you? I also thought of boxing the mounting locations in on that crossmember to keep the flex out. That location seems very flimsy for what it is.

The washers I used were roughly 1 3/4 x 3/32 thick.  I used the washer as a template and cut out the area as big as the washer. Then welded them in roughly flush, worked well and the stock bolts will work. :2thumbs:

I understand. I'll figure something out.

I like the washer idea in terms of price and if its done right i cant imagine any issues. If your going that route maybe get a thicker washer even if that means using a bit longer bolts.

Otherwise its quite a bit of work and money.

As for boxing it, i agree it seems quite flimsy but how much side flex does it go through? i cant imagine boxing it hurting but im not sure if it will be helping...maybe someone with more experience can chime in.

The problem with getting too long on the bolt is getting it in through the shock mount eyelet. There's only so much room to get the existing bolt up in there.

Boxing it may not be a bad idea, mine was cracked in the center of it about a quarter of the way through.  Maybe just a few pieces just to connect both sides together... :scratchchin:

Hey! This is not the place to be posting simple solutions. :icon_smile_cool: Brian has already alluded to the fact that I'm overthinking this and now I'm starting to believe he's right.

On a related note, I went to a car show today and was rather shocked at how many nice-looking cars I saw that were substandard in my opinion. I admit to being too much of a perfectionist but I am finally starting to realize that although these cars would never pass one of my inspections, it's more worthwhile to have them out in public and being enjoyed rather than in the garage waiting on perfection.
