Well everyone, i have loved my time on DC but it will have to come to an end for a few years.  I sold my charger this morning to a fellow who is going to part it out.  I had to move it from the barn i was keeping it in and i had no where to put it so alas it had to be sold...  :icon_smile_dissapprove:

those of you who followed my thread know how important and significant this car was to me, however i had to sell it.  it was the right thing to do.  I wouldnt  be able to realistically work on it for another five years and when i did work on it, i would be having to do much more work than the car is worth.  The frame is in tough shape in the back by the spring mounts and with it being a 318/904 nothing special 72 it wasnt worth dumping money into...

as much as i would like to bring it back to life, it was time to say goodbye.

Thank you all so much for all you have taught me.  I will buy another 3rd gen and get back into the hobby one day; I will. :yesnod:

sorry you had to sell your charger, especially to know it's going to get parted, but it sounds like you needed to make the decision in your best interest, and that' what matters. you'll find another one when the time is right.

Everyone seems to put up with me and I don't own a Charger! Fun to talk about everyone else's cars though.  :yesnod:

Sorry it had to go but things will come back around. Trust me, I am a perfect example of taking a long break to deal with other things life has to offer before I had the time/space/funds.

MRCHARGER

Sometimes it just has to be that way. In 1987 I was 17 and bought my first Charger, it was a 69 a real XS car with a 70 replacement 440. It was very rusty but I loved it. I was like Arnold Cunningham in Christine and I have been hooked on Chargers right up to the most current second of my life.

I tried to restore the car in my Dad's backyard in 1989 and that didn't go well. In 1990 I dropped out of college and tried to restore a 68 that I had purchased for $2,000 that also came with a 68 R/T which was a true rust free car with matching numbers 440 and trans. I thought I would practice on the 318 car, make it a clone, and sell it to finance the other 2 projects. Then I bought (Mom financed everything somehow) a 69 Coronet 500 convertable. I was in Mopar Heaven, except I was painting houses and eating 49cent hamburgers from McDonald's. The trouble was I had more ambition than brains.

In November of 1991 a lady ran a redlight and took out the Coronet. I limped the car to my Mom's and abandoned it in her driveway. As walked a mile and a half to my room in a friends house, I realized that I was going about this the wrong way. The only way to achieve my dream of having a triple black Charger would be to scrap all of these other projects and start over fresh. I sold both R/T's, the Coronet, gave the 318 car to my friend, and cut up the 73 Charger that I traded an engine for because it was loaded with 68 and 69 parts (and was too rusted to revive in those days). It killed me to watch all of my stuff get dragged off.

In 1995 I graduated and in October I found a nice 68 to start over with. I repainted it in 98 and then began the rotisserie restoration on it in 2006.

Don't leave this site, stay here for motivation and inspiration. You know you are doing the right thing when it's the hardest thing to do. I had to sell my 2008 R/T the day before my birthday this summer, it was hard, but it's the right thing because now I can finish the dream.

The main thing is that you have your priorities straight.  Yes it sucks that you had to sell your car and sucks even worse that you know it will only be parted out.  However, think of the positive that you can now start saving away for the car that you always wanted with particular options that your previous car did not have!  And please, don't leave the site just because you don't own a charger anymore.  There may be people working on their cars that have problems that you might have dealt with your own car at some point.  You are still a load of knowledge to people on the site here who might have an issue that you have dealt with in the past.

Some of the best prices, leads you'll get on rides will be from folks you know on the internet.  It beats having to fly out & look at something when you're dealing with someone who you have complete faith in.

Stay in touch & keep making the right choices, you'll continue to make something out of yourself.  :yesnod:

Very sorry to hear this Foreman but like everybody else says you do what you gotta do. You are making a wise choice, you now will be able to use some of the knowledge you've attained on the site and keep in touch so when you're next project comes around you'll be ready to go. I've owned my '72 since 1986 and not driven it since 1992 there are times when I have been tempted to sell but so far things have worked out and I've been able to keep it. Right now I'm selling some parts to keep my bills at bay. I'm 45 and put too many other things in front of my Charger, I've finally stripped it down but don't know when I'll be able to afford to paint it.

Good luck with everything. Alan.

That's funny. I spent two days helping Eric drag that car out of the cave it was in, clean it up and help start to disassemble it. This guy comes along loads it on a trailer and will flip it for $500.00.

WHOOAAH!

He only paid you 500$ for it??? The damn tail lights and headlights alone are worth nearly 1k! He said BIN was $1,100 so i imagine he got it for less.

Why didnt you make it known on the forum?? Honestly i would have bought the damn thing and put it away until i had the chance to fix her up.

NHCharger

Frank, no the guy will make a $500 profit on it. I did offer Eric some money for it but I just blew my Charger wad at Carlisle. Eric is a poor college student right now and needs every penny he can scrape up. We talked about putting it up for sale here or on C/L. And yes I would have parted it out also and traded a guy for parts for my 68. Eric could have made more money parting it like you mentioned but the car is 40 miles from his house and he went back to college this weekend. He did the right thing by putting this behind him before he went back to college. Plus he really wanted to restore that car so parting it out would have been painful for him to do.

I told him he had his priorities in order.
1. Education
2. Charger
3. Girlfriend

Also when Eric told me he sold the Charger he said it was to a guy that teaches auto shop in high school. It sounded to me that the way this guy talked was that he was going to use this car in shop class or use some of the parts on a car they were working on. Maybe I misunderstood what was said.

Sorry to hear the news but you have a lifetime to find another starting point.  This car is still your first Charger and you gained a ton from owning it.  I too have a '72 318/904 car.  But this is my first project so I'm trying to learn what I can from working on this car so I will have the skills and knowledge to put time and money in a more valuable/desirable car later on.  You did the right thing, and should have no regrets about any decisions.  Stick around man.

You did what you had to do Eric, don't look back. Nothing that's meant for you will ever pass you by.
I bought an 80 D100 pickup for 350.00, spent 4 years in storage @ 25 a mo. and 280.00 for title work. Day of reckoning came when storage jumped to 40 per mo. and my son (Who I kinda bought it for to fix up.) admitted car-less but going to collage was a better plan. 5+ years of storage payments are not an option for you and as a dad myself, I support your decision regardless of the outcome from who you sold it too and what they do.
Think of it this way, you saved that car, it may yet be restored.   :2thumbs:
You showed us a remarkable determination and effort for a young gun growing up and we saw you learn as you grew. Your future is priceless and far more important right now.

Brock Samson

Just like my Plymouth. Flipped twice in two mos. and the box of parts needed to complete it - in the trunk (black carpet floor pan antenna and plastic seat hinge cover and an extra carb.) never made it to Germany. The current owner now needs them all.   :shruggy:  :flame:
