68 Charger Fender adjustment

Hello,

I just installed my new AMD front fenders and the hood is very tight and I need to increase the gap. Now there is no way to move them out at the rad support section as it bolts solid. Does the factory shim the fenders behind the inner fenders to provide necessary clearance? I bought the car stripped so I am unsure how this was put together. With the hood on it is tight to both fenders.

Also is any type of a sealer used between the inner fender and the fender itself?

Yes they were sometimes shimmed. And there was a strip caulk type sealer between the inner and the fender.
68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

Any idea what type of sealer could be used? I was thuinking that 1 inch wide stuff used to seal camper and RV seams so that water and dirt did not come up through.

Much appreciated. I just do not want to shortcut this.

I think I would use either butyl tape or a couple layers of sprip caulk Or just regular seam sealer.

When I pulled my fender there were three factory shims behind it at one end. So shims are clearly ok. These cars are not aircraft tolerances, you know lol
Plans are useless; planning is indispensible.
Especially with an old car!
