Interesting hood stamping

Anyone know anything about this inspection stamp? I've got this hood on my '68. It's not the original but from what I can tell it is a '68 hood and not a '69 because it doesn't have the plates for the hood bumpers. Even if it was a '69 hood though, I don't think it would explain this late 1970 stamp. It looks factory but again I don't know how that could be seeing as it would have been late in the '70 model year.  :shruggy:

1972Rallye

Most likely a service part... they occasionally had to run batches of various parts to keep service inventories at a certain level.

Alaskan_TA

That date would actually be early for the 1971 model year, so it is most likley a replacement part.

Thanks for the input guys, that is pretty interesting stuff to me :yesnod:. Now that you say that it looks like where it didn't get painted blue (and under the blue) there is a reddish primer that I've seen NOS fenders, etc. painted in before.

But then again the stamp is on top of the paint so maybe the factory or dealer painted it the color of the car it was going on BEFORE the inspection stamp :scratchchin:

UFO

If it's on top of the paint.
Could be the shop that did the repair has someone go over the car before releasing it back to the owner.

Here is a 69 hood.  See that "C" shaped plate just in front of the opening for the turn signal light?  68's dont have that plate. (second pic)

All I think that plate does is act as a reinforcing plate that just clips into the hood.  My 69 does not have that but I did find a pair of them at a junk yard and have them somewhere to install if and when I ever paint my charger somewhere down the road.

They were painted along with the rest of the car.
