The narc-ing ability of Google Earth!

In the latest Motor Trend Classic magazine, on page 143, Steve Magnante shares a picture of a group of rusting musclecars, which includes a 1970 Hemi-Cuda.
I wondered if I could find these cars, which were said to be in California somewhere.

I noticed two steet signs, one that said "Hoov" which I interpreted as "Hoover". The other, "Garden".
Another sign said "Lawnmower & Scooter". I Googled "Lawnmower Scooter Hoover Garden California".
I got the town of Westminister, California.

Got on Google Earth, typed in "Hoover street, Westminister California".....and followed the Street until I got to Garden Grove Blvd.
Judging by the area, the train signal and the signage I saw in the picture, I was on the spot. Went to street view, and confirmed the location.
In an overhead view, I could easily see the shaker hood of the Hemi-Cuda.

Total time in this search....less than 5 minutes.

Location: 33 46'26.24"N 117 59'51"W
Just type this into the location bar on Google earth.

Google earth is really useful at times.  I bought my 1969 Dodge Charger  from somone on craigslist. I have heard all the horror stories of people getting robbed or killed. So when the man selling the Charger gave me his adress I looked it up on Google earth. I zoomed in and the Charger was sitting in his driveway. I know that most of the images are at least a year old. So that told me that he had the car for at least a year.

Is it in those storage yards there?? Did you check out all the other old cars in there? I spotted a bunch! Which one is the 'Cuda though?

The Hemi-Cuda is in the upper right hand corner. In the magazine, you can see what to look for. There is a 440 powered (original) 1967 Charger right beside it. In the magazine, there was a 1969 Z28 and a 1970 LS6 Chevelle there as well, both are gone now.

In the article, Steve says the cars have been sitting there for over 20 years and the owner - a postal worker - wouldn't even consider selling ANY of the cars! Well...maybe that has changed!

I got the Chevelle....beside the 'Cuda. Also looks to be a Shelby Mustang infront of them?

That's pretty scary! Anyone can look to see what I have on my property no matter how high a fence I install. It would be easy for a thief to use Google Earth for bad things.

I sorta know where that is and I've probably driven by a few times while visiting family in Westminster. Go figure...you never really know whats in those places.

I have done this type of search several times and not just for cars. All of the data is there at your fingertips. If you live in the sticks like me they hardly ever update the maps! 

Oh, and don't forget to turn off Geo-tags in your digital cameras!

. I'm thinking that his privacy issues were negated the moment he permitted photos to be taken of his vehicles in-situ. As well... What kind of storage is that which is outside and at a busy intersection in the core of a city?

There's also a white 1967 Coronet in that picture....I spy the "383 Four Barrell" fender emblem. ...or it's a R/T Hemi and the badging says "426"!    Although I can't see any hood louvers so maybe its not an R/T.
