Guys I need some ideas fast... I had brake trouble starting early this summer and after talking to several people and doing research figured it was the brake booster.   The symptoms were rock hard pedal and the car stopped like a snow sled.  Since I was switching the booster I decided to go ahead and change the master cylinder.  I ordered a new (reman) booster part # 54-73501 ( the pics looked just like the one that is on the car) and a Dorman M75818 which is the same Master cylinder on the car. The booster I received didn't look like the bendix type that is on the car, but it fit at install time. After install the pedal is a complete sponge and absolutely no stopping is going on unless the pedal is MASHED into the floor with both feet.  What are my options? Did I get a bad/wrong booster?

Usually a rock hard pedal is improper bleeding of the master cylider.

disagree....

rock hard pedal is usually bad booster or no vacuum...mushy pedal usually is improper bleeding and air in system....

did you set the push rod from the booster to the master cylinder?

Maxwellwedge... the rock hard pedal problem was prior to any work at all being done on the brakes.  Everyone I've talked to immediately said booster. A383wing... I take it to a shop here.  I would hope they checked the clearance between the booster pin and the master cylinder but the more I read about it that's what it sounds like.  The thing had absolutely no brakes today.  I didn't even feel safe to drive it, not for me for the car.  I'll talk to him tomorrow.  Anybody have any problems or luck with Master Power Brakes booster and master cylinder? Thanks for the replies-

I agree if the booster is not working properly but if it is........ Try not bleeding a master and see what happens.

Update - Booster Dewey is a savior... Called him on Tuesday and got a Bendix booster (found out a Midland was on the car) 2nd day UPS.  Installed today and the brakes are better than they ever have been.  I would recommend Booster Dewey to anyone having booster troubles or questions!
