I really get tired of hearing about the 283/283 Chevy

Once again some Chev fan was telling me about the incredible power of the smallblock Chev and that it was the first American production engine to make 1 horse per cube.  I always tell these guys what a shock that must have been to some of the 300B and DeSoto Adventurer buyers from the year before thise great Chevy "achievment" but apparently that's a Chrysler myth or something.
The latest incident wasn't a cruise night but sitting around a campfire intially talking about fishing so maybe the 283 qualified as fish tale?

I always loved the 327/365 vette engine. 283/283 was the Fuel injected engine in the vette or Belair. 404/409 dual quad was cool to.  All the companies made cool engines.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

When all you have is an   :hah:   old Chev 283, you have to sqwak about something of importance. Let 'em live their dream.

I walked into a Liquor store the other day and some drunk was telling the owner that he had a cool 68 Z28 with a Ford 302 in it...bad enough he's a chebbie guy but he thinks he had a FORD 302 in it?  I promptly told him he had a CHEVY 302 in it, which was a 283 block with a 327 crank.  As I recall, that was done to meet a 305 cube limit for racing, possibly Trans Am racing.

Yup. Even the mopars in that series were 305s. Destroked 340s built by Keith Black.

Yeah I guess you just hangout with the wrong people , I never figured out how the Chevy was the first hp / ci engine I am sure there were others but for sure the 354 did it before Chev

The DeSoto Hemi beat it too.  I forget the displacement but it was the optional dual four version.  And as far as things around here, well you did a stint here and what can I say?  The legacy of Bruce McCorckle runs deep.
