Between a 440 hp and non hp....
God must love stupid people....he made a sh**load of 'em....

Matco tools...guaranteed for a lifetime. Just not a human lifetime.

The "HP" stamp?  ;)  Seriously, only the rotating equipment is different between a non-hp motor and a hp motor. The blocks are the same (as I understand it).

:iagree:

of course compairing between same castings... allong the years they got diff changes but not related being HP or not.

the diff were mainly camshaft, double roller timing chain set, valve springs with dampeners, windage tray, 4 bbls intake, HP ex manifolds... allong the years some of these began to be quite standart but still with some adds more
Venezuelan RT 74 400 4bbl, 727, 8.75 3.23 open. Now stroked with 440 crank and 3.55 SG. Here is the History and how is actually: http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,7603.0/all.html

440 source has some good info on their site on subtle differances in blocks through the years but yep their all pretty much the same.

Single roller timing set in 69. The 70-71 Six-Packs got a three bolt cam double roller set....among some other goodies.

The Big problem is people always confuse MOPAR "HP" Engines with the Brand X Chevy "High Perf" Engines.

The Chevy got the 4 bolt block, forged pistons, steel crank, rec. port heads, etrc. when you got the "High Perf" Engine...

Chrysler on the other hand just put all the good stuff in every single 440 from granny's ride clean up to the 440+6...Some just got "Better" stuff..No 4 bolt blocks though in Chrysler cept the Hemi...

So does that mean I can still buy a 440 motor that came out of a motor home and still build it as would for a real Charger 440 engine??

In terms of blocks its all the same (yes there are a few casting differences, check 440 souce for exact info) but generally speaking nothing differs block wise. When it comes to internals its another story, usually motor home engines are lower compression, depending on year they may have a forged or cast crank. Heads might differ (some heads are open chamber some are closed) most are std ly connecting rods.obviously cams are different for motor homes. But if your looking stricktly block wise...it don't matter...I even prefer later blocks with the larger figure 8 cooling holes. And don't be scared, nothing wrong with a cast crank...there good for probably 550 hp. Also if its a 4 speed make sure the crank is drilled for it.

Nacho-RT74

in conlusion, you can make an HP engine from any block, with just the right parts... nothing depends on block

There are better blocks that other but thats year cast related and not HP or not related

Yep, All a HP block is "added goodies" you can find anywhere....Cam, lifters, oil windage tray and a 4 Barrel intake.  Forged cranks were in these but just like others have stated, a cast crank is still good for 500 plus Horses.
Motorhome 440's will need better pistons and a different cam.!!
