AMD Rear Window Glass Issue

I bought a full set of AMD glass a year ago and it's all been installed in the car.  Looks great...but...when we took the car outside you can see hazed lines and small circles in the rear window.  No other glass pieces have these marks.  Of course when I sent this picture to AMD they did the right thing and sent me another new one for free.  I just got it today and it has the same issue.  Might not be as bad, it was hard to tell since the sun was almost gone when I got it.  Funny you only see the marks in the sun (only tried toward the end of the day).  Not sure that's the only time you see it.

I know a bunch of you guys an gals have AMD glass...am I the only one with this issue? 

Anyone know another Company that makes glass (not AMD)?

Yup, my repro piece does the same thing.   I got the bargain basement piece (with no Mopar part #'s etc) from PS Glass, so I figured I got what I paid for...

Every rear repro glass I have seen is like this - regardless of the supplier....E-Body as well

WTF...   Why make crap?  and we all keep buying it because there isn't any better out there....

So for those who have repro glass, how noticable is it?  Can it be seen during the day? I only noticed mine at sunset but haven't had the car out really because its not done yet.

Curious is a light black tint would hide it.  Anyone tint their windows?.

yes me too !! its the stress points in the glass when its made !!   put good quality Polaroid sunglasses on !   walk round a parking lot  when the sun is shining !!  will see every or most   car glass with  in one form or another , well modern stuff anyway more prominent   depending what angle   having said that ,  not seen it on my charger , still got all  original glass , although  weren't looking for it

Weird though how none of the other pieces have any?? Somebody tint it and see if its still there.

Sorry to hear these horror stories with the back glass. This stuff isn't cheap....
I'm going need a new front a/c tinted windshield for my 68.
Does any one have any good suggestions on where to buy a good quality windshield???

your not going to avoid those spots, its becuz of the way the glass is made
throw on some polarized sunglasses while you drive, youll see the spots EVERYWHERE
one of those things your just going to have to either accept, of invent a new way to make glass

Tempered glass possesses the basic optical qualities of annealed glass. The induced stress condition sometimes produces a slight bow in tempered glass lights. Tempered glass that has been manufactured in a vertical tempering oven contains small surface depressions resembling dimples along one edge. These marks are caused by the pointed metal tongs which support the glass during its passage through the oven. Glass which is passed horizontally through an oven may contain a very slight surface wave caused by contact with the rollers. The waviness can sometimes be detected when viewing reflected images from a large distance. Finally, the air quench nozzles discharge air in a fixed, reciprocating or rotating motion. The area of air quench can be seen through polarized glass as arrays of irridescent spots or lines. Under some lighting conditions these patterns can be seen in ordinary light.

I'm planning on replacing my back glass soon.  I guess it is what it is, and we live with it?  I had my windshield replaced last year and it doesn't have any marks like that.  Why would a rear window have tempering marks so visible, but my windshield doesn't when it's also tempered.

not so bad on a windshield  , as its laminated !!  ie two inner & outer layer of glass with vinyl sandwiched in between ,  but can still see in on some modern windshields   when looking  inside out  with sunglasses on  !!  but its tempered (toughened) glass thats where it shows up

actually by safety, all front windshields must be laminated. Tempered explodes when breaking, Laminated just cracks but you still can drive, thats the reason why nowdays all fronts are laminated. The rest can be tempered

i don't think so. i have 2 factory rear windows 1 clear 1 factory tint. they re not in the car so i may not see those lines at the angle I'm looking at them. the clear one is going up for sale if interested.

Funny this popped back up.  I was just thinking of this thread the other day when I was on the road and saw a new car have the same kind of "oil spots" rainbow colors in the glass on a newer car side glass.  Could just be the way glass is being made today.

I have factory glass in mine- same issue.  I just thought it was due to age--guess not.
