Should the Fuel filter have play in the line?

I'm working on the fuel line for my 68 Charger. I got the vapor separator hooked up and put a fuel filter in the line before it.  The fuel filter is running horizontally and not against the firewall. The filter is pretty tight, no play in it. Is that ok? Or should it flex to allow for the engine movement when the car is running??

Im a little confused..... is the fuel filter on the engine or before the fuel vapor/filter separator?  Is there rubber lines to absorb or flex with the torque of the motor somewhere in between the engine and the frame/body of your car?  If there is, then you should be ok.

The fuel filter is before the vapor separator, not on the engine itself. There are rubber lines on it, but it's pretty tight. When I try to move it, there's not much flex in the line at all. How much flex should there be?

I don't think that is the "stock" location for the filter...on mine it was behind the alternator between the fuel pump and carb

it will work that way...I think I got 2 out of my 3 Chargers with filter before the pump...that way it protects the pump as well

I thought the vapour seperater had a filter inside them.

    One school of thought is that the fuel filter should be downstream from the fuel pump. That is, between the pump and carb. That eliminates the the possibility of sucking parts of the filter (if it comes apart internally) into the pump.
