Deck Filler to Sail Gap

Hey guys, I'm getting ready to weld in my deck filler panel on my '69 Charger. I'm looking at how the original was set in place and it looks like it was only aligned to the lower sail panels with a few spot welds along the lower seam. Because some of my sail metal is older, it is a little bent. Is there a way to get a good consistent gap along the deck filler where it meets the inner sail panel? This is a non-vinyl car and the rear window gutter and deck filler are both being welded in. Any suggestions and secrets/tricks to make this look right are appreciated. At this point it is all just clamps and alignment by hand/eye.
Thanks,
Terry

I would use some body spacers, or soemthing that is about 1/8th of an inch to get it close, then finish it off with some filler if necessary.
