I now have the VIN to my dad's '70 R/T!  :coolgleamA:

Dodge Charger
Special
2 door sports hardtop
440ci V8 4bbl HP
1970
St. Louis, MO
184748

The car was originally plum crazy purple but my dad hated purple. He almost painted it canary yellow but came to his senses and painted it the blue instead. 4 speed car and for awhile had a 440-6 under the hood. Original engine was long gone.

So if anyone knows where the Charger with that VIN number is please contact me!

Good luck finding your Charger. Maybe somone at the 1970 Charger registry could tell you if they have it listed. Not knowing  :shruggy: where, or what happened to the car is no fun.

QuoteIt ended up in Terrace and was bought from Terrace around 1985 or so and brought back to Prince George. In Prince George it was unfortunately parted out even though it was complete, I was told it was the matching #s engine but obviously that is wrong per your info above. The body did indeed end up in Mike's hands and he quickly turned it into a racecar and ran the One Lap with it. Last I heard Greg Wightman owned it but I can't remember if he still has it or not. I will ask him about it next time I see him if you like. There is very little left of the original car. The drivetrain is completely gone and the roof is about the only part of the original car left, you would not restore that car.

BTW it was a very pretty Charger in it's original purple, that's why I remember it sitting in Quesnel to this day.

Back in 1985 I used to go to a junkyard in Prince George Virginia that had a 1970 dodge charger that was used as a racecar. I remember the junk yard owner told me that somone had stole the intake off of the engine before he bought it. The junkyard owner got it running and raced it. The car was really messed up. I don't know if it happned racing or in the junkyard.

Pee Break although that Charger had more than a few fenders replaced  :icon_smile_big:

The stories I have about the car... the most ironic is:

My dad had to replace the grille for the Charger. He took off the front bumper and replaced the grille and finger tightened the bumper back on. This is the picture where the car is brown. He came out the next morning and the bumper was STOLEN off the car! Fast forward to 1983 and my dad marries my mother and I am born. Fast forward 3 years and my dad divorces my mother for cheating on him. Fast forward 10 years and my mom remarries. While talking to the guy I found out that he's the guy that stole my dad's bumper for his own '70 Charger! Dad always said he got revenge because the guy married my mother.....

My half brother (same mother different fathers) says that the bumper is actually still hanging up in the barn at his dad's place to this day.

Pics like this remind me of why most Chargers have rusted out rear quarters  :o

Great series of pics...

Reminds me of a house I didn't buy in the 90s... Great house, lousy road... I passed, as I couldn't bear to live w/ the gravel roads  :o

I guess I shouldn't mention that at one time my dad contemplated jumping his Charger over a large ditch where someone was digging to put in a coluvert then? :D

Luckily he came to his senses before he tried it.

How did he get the two year good driver discount on his insurance :smilielol:?  He must have did alot of body work himself!

Our family was big on racing back in the day so many members of our family and friends of the family were mechanics and bodymen. My dad knew where to get a favor  :icon_smile_big:

After getting the engine pulled and rebuilt TWICE by one family friend he said no more and told my dad to do it himself the third time. So my dad built a engine host by making a TeePee out of three logs and a couple pulleys and pulled the engine out and rebuilt it himself.

70 Charger RT

What size engine is a "T" in the vin number?  Haven't seen that one before.  Gotta be a typo.  Also, if the drink the case of Blue that's on the roof, then the results will be stopping and peeing.  Sure brings back memories only I drank Uncle Ben's.  (both have 5% alcohol)

It's for a low performance 440 usually available in "C" body cars.

It's a misprint. There was no 'T' engine code (for a Charger at least) in 1969. It was likely an 'L'.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.
