Does anyone carry complete 2nd gen Charger exhaust sytems with the X-pipe?

firefighter3931

TTI sure does. If you're running HP manifolds you need to give them the casting #'s....and they'll send the headpipes that bolt right up. :icon_smile_big:

Thanks Ron. I did finally get a passenger side HP manifold so I'm ready to rock! I'm still surprised that my 2bbl 4spd car originally came with HP manifolds.

You're welcome Curtis. A 2.5in system with x-pipe would be ideal for the 383.  :icon_smile_big: The dynomax superturbo mufflers that tti sell with the kit are descent. Stay away from Flowmaster !

We have a 1970 383 2bbl automatic parts car that has a HP driver side and non HP passenger side manifold. I think that is what your car had too because it caught my attention. The car is entirely original right down to the hubcaps. Weird.

Really? Yea, mine has that configuration too. I was thinking it's supposed to have HP manifolds on both sides but now you've got me thinking. Maybe it is stock but why would they do that?

694spdRT

I really don't know. My guesses were either they had a shortage of standard driver side manifolds on the line and would use the HP's or possibly the driver side manifold was prone to cracking and was replaced early on. I should mention the HP manifold on mine has a casting date that is "correct" for our car so it seems to be original. :shruggy:

Because your car and my car are three years apart it might just be a coincidence rather than a "production" line issue. I do find it hard to believe that our base 383 2bbl automatic car got a factory HP manifold other than by accident or a line shortage. However, your 4 speed car would make for a more likely candidate IMO. If I remember right your car was coded for 3.23 sure grip too. Can you read the date codes on the manifolds? That might help out.

It's 3:23 (or was) but I don't know about Sure Grip. Which code would tell you? I don't have the build sheet. I'll have to look more closely at the manifolds for dates. They have the right part numbers.

694spdRT

On the 2nd line up from the bottom on your fender tag look under the AX.

The 3.23 gear code will be a 4 under the A and a Suregrip code will be an 8 under the X. If there is nothing under the X your car did not originally have Sure Grip.

Ok. I'll have a look at it later today. I've got the tag locked in my safe. ;D
