found a super bee in the woods! help needed

hey i just found a 1970 super bee in the woods near my house. it has its original paint. no motor or transmission. but was a big block 4speed car. it is sitting in the dirt. the floors are great and someone at some point started a restoration on it because they cut out the rear trunk floor. and frame rails. the body isnt bad. just dented. the dash is there and so is the vin tag. it reads wm23n0 and the production number i didnt get. i was so excited when i found it i forgot to look for the fender tag. but he is basicall giving me the car ad about 5 others. one is a cut apart 70 plymouth and another is a 67 cornet 440. all three mopars have no motors or transmission. I just dont know if i should build the super bee or scrap it. and if anyone could tell me what the vin decoded as i would appreciate it. thanks

I personally am against scrapping it.  If you need to find a home for it, I am sure one could be found.

well when i found it i fell in love its b5 blue i believe with a white stripe. blue interior. i guess the best thing to do is get a 4 door parts car and go from there. im thinking of using the plymouth for what ever i can get( which isnt much. about the only good thing is the rear end and maybe the rear frame rails. the worst part is the only way to get them all is to drag them through a farmers field and it has to wait till after he harvests the crops in the fall. so it will be in the wooks till then.  im so excited but dissapointed. oh well guess ill get as many of the parts as i can before i get it out.

one more thing im going to need a new front clip my guess is the farmer let all these cars roll down his field they hit a tree. the fron bumper is good. but the radiator support is trashed and so is the innerfenders. and if anyone would know where i can get a rear frame section with the floors and taillight panel let me know. i live in wisconsin and am going to iola. ill be looking for parts there. this is my first mopar and im 18 so any advise from all will be greatly appreciated

Sounds like a great discovery.  

Before you start work or invest any money in these cars, & even before you put any effort into getting them out of the woods, a couple of things you should consider.....

1) Can you get titles for these cars from the person offering them to you, & is this person the actual owner?  

Some states only have transferable registrations which show ownership & should be fine. If there are no ownership papers at all, it will be a long process to get the car legally in your name & you should check with your state DMV office on what you specifically need to do. If you end up parting any of them, then the title isn't a big issue, but if you go to sell one it will cut out a lot of potential buyers by not having anything but a bill of sale.

If the person isn't the owner, you have to make sure the vehicle was never stolen or salvaged. If the person offering them doesn't know, then it will be difficult to track down since most, if not all, DMV offices don't keep records for the older stuff. There are stories of cars being bought & sold many times, even restored, & then it's discovered that it was stolen 35 years ago & must be returned to the original owner. You could be out a lot of money by then.

2) For the car with the rear frame rails cut out, what is supporting the back half of the car?

It sounds like you may not be able to get this thing off the ground without doing some damage to whatever is left of the car. Without the rear frame rails there is nothing to attach the leaf springs or keep the tail from getting twisted & misaligned. Getting it onto a flatbed will be better than dragging it through a field.

Also look seriously at how much needs to be done and research some dollars replacement cost to get it completed.   With prices as low as they have been lately, you may find a deal on a driver you can actually have fun with now and do work as you go.  I've seen more than enough vehicles people bought only to invest many thousands of $$ putting back into shape and the whole time the car is just sitting there being a money pit and discouraging.  Kinda got one of those projects now  .  Hate having the thought that if I had to sell it off in the present condition how much I would lose but got too much in it now to not to even consider not finishing it but I pretty much knew what I was getting into before I started.  Just weigh it all out before you start.  You may be able to sell parts off and use the money to fix up a car in better shape.  The hood and fenders if not banged up from the Bee are used for Bird clones like I'm building as well as for other Coronets.

IMO, if it's free it might be worth it to have for somethign to learn on / get familiar with mopars  . but otherwise I'd look for a better canidate for a restoration project.

that was my thought on it. I love building cars ive been doing it since I was 13. I do my own work so it wount be that bad. And i would build it as a driver. nice and solid but not 100% trailer show queen.

I used to have a '70 with a slant 6 that I bought for $100 & drove for about a year. I traded it for $75 & a set of chrome magnums that I put on my wife's Duster. The only bad rust it had was on the driver's side floor where I put a piece of plywood. 

Kind of sorry I can't find one as clean now for $100.

the car will not be scraped. the title is lost but obtainable. i want to learn about mopars with this one. im just worried about getting the car out of the woods and having a tree fall on the car before i can rescue it.

My advise is to do your research and keep your yapper shut around town, I've had people turn greedy and screw me out of cars or generally mess up what I was trying to do. (This includes "friends".)  Good Luck to you.

I completely agree 100%

but the average community says otherwise.
A 1970 Bee is probably one of the cheaper of the 68 to 70 Coronets you can buy. Yet one of the harder and more expensive bodystyles to find parts for.
But no drivetrain and major frame surgery required would put it in the scrap heap for me .

I will add , If you want to learn on something ,  go for it. That alone may be worth the price of admission. If the car were free and all your labor was free , your still going to be in the car upside down in a major way. My opinion only of course

Gotta go with Piston_Freddy on this one. My friend's 1974 Challenger is a really nice restoration and always turns heads with the detailing done to it but, I just cannot get past the grille!

The front end on a '70 Coronet is far from my favorite but ........... 72-74 Challys have an uglier front end to me.

totally serious they just look mean and tough  love them the best of all dodges  , but my favortie of all mopars is the 70 plymouth  of course when i buy my 70 coronet it will be a convertible     in fact i love them so much my plymouth has 70 coronets fenders and hood on it

I am really a 68-69 fan in almost all Mopars but the 70's  come in a close 3rd in the Coronet/ R/T /Super Bee for me.

I will admit that if it weren't for the 70 Coronet front clip, there would be no Superbirds. The nose cone is a 1,000% improvement.

One thing that you will have to be careful on it is that not all parts are available as reproduction items (Chargers do have more repo stuff on the market than the regular 70 Coronet/70 Superbees do).  It is an oddball in that it is really a one year only car with many unique parts to find (and you have to compete with the wing guys for the front end sheetmetal).  The grilles on the 70 Coronets are fairly hard to find and pretty fragile (prone to cracking, even more than charger grilles), so be prepared to pay some $$$ if they are missing from that car.  As other members have said, you are best off finding a nice 4 door 70 Coronet 440 car for parts, as this can be cheaper in the long run.  The days of finding mint 70 Coronet parts in junkyards is way past over.  I did it a decade ago, but was real lucky at the time to even find that......

Back in 2000, I missed out on a real panther pink 70 Superbee project car for a cheap price ($1500 at the time, yes I know how rare they are).  However I still have my rough (and very rusty) 70 top banana yellow/black Superbee as one of my projects.....

I think that the loop bumpers look more sinister on the coronets because of the split in the middle. To me the front end looks like it it could be just glaring at you.

I really like em. Granted it is quite a polarising car with the loop front end but I have always like the individual appeal of them. Very rare out here

I'm also not a fan of the front clip of these..... IMO the nicest 70 B-body is the GTX/Roadrunner. I even like the 70 GTX / RR more than the 68/69's.

But they are a rare kind.....
