The 440 I have for my car the casting numbers 4006630-440-1 I found is a 440 from 75-78 above the little clock casting is 8 27 75 is this the date the motor was built? I would like to find out what exactlly this motor came in originally.

tan top

 the motor assembly date will be on this pad  first picture !!  see green arrow  on second picture for location  :yesnod:
& vin number of what the  vehicle it came from  , well hard to tell that year think it only last 7 digits & don't give the model line  :scratchchin:   will be  where the yellow arrow is pointing  to on the third picture , ignore green arrow on that picture ( for 1968) :yesnod:

assembly date should be in the bottom left of that pad  , if you un sure post a picture   :yesnod:
Feel free to post any relevant picture you think we all might like to see in the threads below!

8 27 75 is the block casting date. Refer to Tan top's post above mine for the engine assembly date.

I got the numbers from the front pad and I couldnt find any numbers on the rear of the block anywhere.
Heres what I got from the pad what can you tell me from these numbers.
5  T  440  B
4       2
Thanks for your help guys

John_Kunkel

5= 1975 (Sure it's not a 6?)
T= Assembled at the Trenton engine plant
440= Displacement
B= .010" undersized rod/main bearings
4   2= Would normally be the build date April 2 but this precedes the casting date so I suspect there is a digit missing. An August '75 casting would normally be in a '76 model car.

Look at the machined flat just above the pan gasket on the passenger side of the block, a partial VIN will be stamped there.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Ok I found the machined flat on the passenger side heres the numbers 519120 can you help me out with those. Thanks
Also I got all the numbers off the trans the motor and trans are supposed to be out of the same vehicle. On the side of trans 3743103-8, above trans pan PK3681866  5088  6935 another number 3681191

maxwellwedge

5088  = July 3, 1975

I believe PK3681866 is for a C-Body 440

The stamped number near the block pan gasket should be preceded by a digit and a letter, example 5B519120 and the same should be stamped in a raised pad on the passenger side of the transmission bellhousing, this will tell the exact model year.

I found that number on the passenger side of the trans 5B191620 the B may be a D cant tell for sure.  I originally posted a few post back the code on the engine block 519120 I didnt see the 6 on the engine block the first time but I checked again and its barely there you cant see any letters on the block after the 5 everything else matches up so they are a matching set but from what. Thanks for the help guys

5B idedntifies it as a 1975 car built at the Hamtramck (Detroit) plant, not sure what cars were built at that plant in '75.

The OP states that the block casting date is 8 27 75 which is well after the end of '75 production, the '75 car production would have ended on approximately 8 1 75.  :shruggy:
