my car had a 400 in it and it had a factory 100amp alt. its boiled the battery over since i got the car. ive never been able to figure it out. now im putting in a 440 and i dont want to use that huge 100amper anymore.  i dont know much about this stuff. if i get an internally regulated alt does that mean i can get rid of the voltage regulator and ballast resistor on the firewall?

any info on the subject would be great!

If you're not concerned about originality this is the way to go.
I've had one for several years, it puts the old Mopar unit to shame.

1 wire internally regulated GM alt  :Twocents:

Do a few searches and youll get plenty of threads on the topic...bottom line is the GM alt puts out much better voltage at idle and if it craps out you can probably find one at your local deli.

Boiling the battery isn't the fault of the ampere capacity of the alternator.

Regardless of the alternator used you will still need the ballast resistor if using the factory ignition.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
