Is there or would there be any advantages to replicating the factory style H-pipe system in a full 2.5" front to rear - as opposed to installing a repop that necks down to a 2.25" where it enters the mufflers and tail pipes.
It's a very mild built 440 , stock HP manifolds with what is basically just slightly over a stock cam ., stock torque convertor, stock AVS carb and 3.23 gears

as of right now - pricing it out , costs are going to be very similar

Thats exactly what I am running Bill....

I had Tom from Accurate LTD make me a full stock1 piece H-Pipe 2.5" set-up all the way to the tips...running SS 2.5" tips as well from Mancini Racing.

Went with his bent corner Hemi High Flow mufflers as well for a bit more tone.  No droning complaints from me as well

My only difference from your above mentioned set up is that I am running 3.55 gears & a little higher stall converter ....  :Twocents:

Chris,
squeezing absolutely every  HP out of this car is not paramount.

per both myself and the cars owner,
Goal #1 but it has to sound like a R/T Charger should and most important is no droan or resonance at either hiway and/or cruising speeds. Just as paramount for me  is,,,, NO RATTLES from the exhaust hitting something it's not supposed to , which to me gives a slight  edge for the local shop bent pieces,. I know the shop mgr at a Midas and he'll take good care of it while it's there.
My experiences with repop exhaust has not been good.
But I just helped a friend of mine put a full repop exhaust on a 67 Coronet R/T from Dons Custom Exhaust and it fit like a glove.
So if we decide to go repop,,, Dons will by my 1st choice and I could  pick it up at Carlisle and save on freight.

Right now I just re-installed the original H-pipe and old mufflers to move it around.

Accurate makes their stuff from the factory pieces....fit like a glove

Local shop gonna make you a 1 piece H pipe?  Or put together with clamps?
If you are looking for a cheaper alternative then yes the muffler shop would be the way to go I guess

Check the gauge of the pipe used and how it's coated. There is a big difference in 14 vs 18 gauge. As a steel framer for over ten years I know!  :2thumbs: Accurate Exhaust looked the best to me with 14 gauge aluminized coating it's got to sound better and hold up well.  :2thumbs:

True, good point as well...Ive had mine on there 6 years now in an unheated garage & still looks new
Just another consideration

Cheaper is secondary, quality is primary. Sure costs are of a concern. But I look at the big bicture, if it's more, why?  and is it worth the added cost?

I've heard of fit issues with accurate, plus if even bought at shows they still add shipping costs. ( kind of defeats the purpose doesn't it ? )

Dons I've not heard of a single complaint. And I can buy his H-pipe and tail pipes at a Carlisle, look them over for dents, dings etc ,,,, and pay no shipping costs. I can pick up hangers at Carlilse. Then pick out my own muffler choices locally to try and acheive the sound we're after.

My local guy will replicate the factory H-pipe using a combination of a bend card, and experience. And it will be a fully welded pipe just like the repops, or I will not pay for it. and he already knows that .

But if theres no advantage to a full 2.5" exhaust with this engine I may lean towards just buying it done .
The advange to buying done , is I do the install . And I don't have to mess with transportation to and from to the shop. As of right now , this is the way I'm leaning ,maybe just a little bit.

I bought mufflers, tailpipes and hangers from Tom at Accurate last year at Carlisle. He reduced the list price of the parts to cover the shipping. I thought I got a fair deal.

On that note (no pun intended) I wish there were sound clips available for some of the different set ups, I'm leaning toward a stock system only with resonators added myself.  (Just because I remember that mellow sound as my favorite)   :scratchchin:

Also -TTI Exhaust- make quality kits that are direct fit you can get them with or with out mufflers the mufflers (maybe) are probably too loud, for you app it sounds like but the tubing is very well done..... :Twocents: you can also get them in stainless at a price of course......

Do you feel the audio is accurate?  Do you think being in the garage is making it louder?
