Speaking of AMCs...

On my route to work there is a dark green 1968 AMC AMX that's been sitting in the front yard of a house with a for sale sign for a couple weeks now. It looks really solid and has historical plates (which likely means it is adult owned). I don't know much about these and it's unlikely that I'd buy one but I think it's neat and I'm curious about the history and what it might be worth. I'm assuming it's a 390 but were there any other engine options?

Not from what I've heard.

I believe the engine sizes available were the 290, 343, 360 and 390. Post a pic of your soon to be latest acquisition, and how much they are were asking.  :yesnod:   ;)

If you buy that AMC & bring it to Carlisle, I don't think you'll be allowed to park it near the DC.com tent.

Just sayin'

Seriously, I'm not buying an AMC. Not to mention my other cars are bleeding me dry right now. If anyone else wants one I'd be happy to look and take a bunch of pictures.

Oh, it's not the Javelin AMX - it's the short two seater thing. I had no idea they made both. I see that there were multiple engine choices but the 4-speed was standard.

Pics please.  :popcrn:

The AMX was 68 to 70 and had a shorter wheel base than the Corvette, AMX was the only two seat steel bodied American car of the 60s. Cost way less than a Vette and arguably was the better car.

Javelins were 4 seaters and much longer. AMX rocked.

Yea, unless you actually need parts for it.

It sounds as if this one is complete and ready to go, which is about the only way I would mess with an AMC product.

Drache

1968 AMC AMX
- Three engine sizes, 290, 343, 390
- Standard was 4 speed transmission, traction bars, and dual exhaust
- 3 speed auto with manual shift capable was optional
- If it's a 343 or 390 look for power front disc brakes (could mean the "go package")

If it was one of the Breedlove AMX's then it's worth some money as only 50 or so were made. These had the 290, 4 speed, and had the red white and blue paint job.

You would kill but would you sell your '69 Charger for one? Just trying to gauge where murder lies on your scale. :D :nana:

Yep the AMX's were great in Trans Am Racing back in the day I think it was Troy Donahue who drove 1 to a few wins, it was a 5.0 ltr or less than 305 cubes though. They are by far the best AMC car that was built, IMO

I like the AMC's Stuart, but isn't that turnout like 2/3's of all the AMC's left in existence?

Never seen that many all at one location before.

The Gremlin X only had a 304 in it. I had a 73 Gremlin X 304, 3 speed on the floor. It was pretty fast , then I put a 401 with a 727 auto in it and it was nuts!!!!
All AMC engines are small blocks, great running motors too. I'd like to get another one someday.
