Recent upgrades on my 69 - 2018 time to clean things up

YES it is loud, lol....I cruise that daily though at 3k plus rpms  I got used to it though....imagine screaming for 4k rpm for an hour going only 100mph hahahhaha.....

So some future plans are to go with a new road race oil pan, oil cooler, oil breather setup, locking trans dip stick, bigger torsion bars, maybe some adjustable shocks, aluminum heads, and I REALLY need to get an overdrive for this transmission. The car is just too damn loud for long trips at 3,000+ RPMs for hours at a time!

Thanks again everyone!    It was a great feeling getting out there and wheeling the car around. I tried to get a couple go pro videos but the sound is all messed up. And I made the bonehead move of leaving it on so it died before I could get more.

Last pic is one of my favorites. I slid around the last turn and spun sideways across the finish. But I didn't hit a single cone!

Body roll isn't too bad. With this big of a car there is always going to be some but with all the mods done it transitions back real nice without throwing itself all over the place. I had the rear sway bar adjusted to the softest setting so the rear was leaning a bit more than normal. I could have adjusted it but it felt good.

Car has tubular upper arms, boxed lower arms, adjustable strut rods, bigger steering rods, 1.03" torsion bars, fox shocks, 1 3/8" front sway bar, 1" adjustable rear sway bar, hotchkis leaf springs, subframe connectors, and lower radiator support brace.

So it's time to upgrade the headlights...hopefully for the last time    

Years ago I had a set of Xenons that were great. The light output was super bright but blinded on coming traffic and for some reason every kit I purchased failed after about a year. After the 3rd failed Xenon kit I needed a quick fix to get them working so I made the switch to modern H4 bulbs with relays. The light output was crap compared to the Xenons and I was never really happy with how much light was projected. Driving home from the Optima event I was fed up with the performance of the H4s, so it was time for an upgrade.

Now I have moved to LED bulbs. I always wanted a set but the kits were like $500+ and wouldn't fit the without cutting up the headlight buckets which I wasn't going to do. But then I saw these new bulbs and decided to give them a shot. These fit in any H4 housing without any modifications and so far they are amazing. The fit was spot on and the light output is more than double the H4 bulbs but not as blinding as xenons.

These pics show the drivers side with the LED and the passenger side with the H4 bulb. You can see how much brighter these are and just like all LEDs they produce less heat and less amps.

The 68 bezels finish the look. Soon as I saw them I knew I needed a set. 69's should have come from the factory with them.

It doesn't even matter what bulbs you're running, the relay mod is a necessity on these cars.     It is easy to do, it is cheap, you can make it near invisible, and the payoff is huge.  I have the mod and H4 bulbs and I drove it two weeks ago at 6 am and I had absolutely no issues on the country roads here.  The brights were real nice but not even necessary.  That used to be different before the mod.  The lights were good enough to drive but this is another story.  I can only imagine how much brighter it would be with these leds.

How the hell did I miss all of this?  Clayton I had no idea you're actually tracking the car.  The two of you must've turned a lot of heads and raised a few eyebrows when you blasted through that road course.  Hopefully I'll be able to follow in your footsteps in the near future.  Thanks for being an inspiration!

Exactly    Running any light with the relays is the way to go. Draws power right from the battery rather than through the headlight switch and if anything bad does happen the fuses will blow out before the damage can spread to other areas of the wiring.  

The install is very simple. For the low beams all you need is the bulbs, H4 housings, and the relay kit. Mount the relays (I put mine under the battery tray) and wire them directly to the battery. Then the relay plugs into the existing drivers side headlight plug and the new bulbs plug right into the new relay harness plugs. One minor issue I ran into was I had to trim the existing plug to fit the relay plug but it was nothing major. 30 seconds with a razor and it fit perfectly. Then it is just routing the wires and plugging them into the bulbs. The one thing to watch for once the headlights are installed is to make sure the actuator bracket that opens the headlight doors do not contact the copper heat sinks on the back of the bulb. The heat sink braids are flexible so you can adjust them to clear everything perfectly. I will take some photos later showing how I have mine positioned.
