Silicone goop removal

Anyone know of a solvent of some sort to get 40+ years of black goop off windshield and rear window molding?
ie...I would like to soak the trim in something and have it fall off as opposed to spending hours scraping and picking it off by hand like I've always done in the past.

If you do a search for silicone removal solvent or silicone removal theres a bunch of different solvents available...cant tell ya which ones are best though.

If it's that black butyl adhesive it will not be fun. Yeah, you'll be applying a copious amount of elbow to be sure. I had butyl all over the bottoms of my 69 tail light lens. I used a sheetrock knife to cut out a lot of it................careful is key here. Then I made a long trough to accommodate the Lens and soaked it in lacquer thinner. Did harm the lens at all but slowly dissolved the sticky nasty. Good luck and review your cache of swear words.............you will be using them.

if that goop is the real  none hardening stuff !!   its a nightmare , some thinners just make it worse by spreading it around  ,  & it then sticks to everything , works though for getting it off    

!!   but the thing  i have found best is spray it with WD40 &  rub it off with a cloth , keep spraying with WD40 as & when  ,  , WD40  does something to the black goop & it dont spread around & will come off like chewing gum , but not really sticking to anything else , pluss  WD40 does not attack & wreck the latex gloves your wearing ,
not sure it will work on all brands/ types of that butal stuff  , but its worked  for me

I used acetone for around the front window channels which worked quite well to save time, but dont use it if your paint is nice as it will probably remove some of it. It still took a fair effort of elbow grease however
