Well I thought "great" they ran their bikes into it...well at least their honest." It's usually always in the garage but I was doing some cleaning and had it parked in front of the house. BUT what they asked was if I could start it so they could hear it run...with one in the back giving a long "pleeeeease." I said "sure" and went out, started it up for 'em and even showed them my little restoration book. I did think it interesting kids that young would be interested in old chargers. Gave me reason to be optimistic for the youth of today...and remember these are the "kids" 20 years from now that will be buying our cars as we head to the nursing home!

Wow! There is hope for Americas youth

I agree and also think its cool. However, as mentioned in another thread elsewhere in the forum, the cost of entry to have a muscle car will likely prevent many of them from ever owning one of these cars. It also will create a whole new segment in the auto service industry of specialist who can PROPERLY service these old cars that will further drive the cost of ownership up. Heck, we're close to that now when you see daily threads such as "how do I tune my carb", "why can't my local shop align my car correctly", and "how come it costs so much to just hang a quarter panel" on this and many other web boards.

Excellent to hear, I took my rough beater to a local show last wkend with my kids and had quite a few youngsters eyeballing and photoing my old car and thought similar thoughts.  :coolgleamA:

Agreed,
pre 1980 cars makes up for over 75% of the work I do.

newest car I have in the shop right now is a 1969. 2 of them actually --- a 1969 Charger and just in yesterday is a 1969 Barracuda 340 ( 1970 Cuda is still here , but out for some paint work till next week ) And I'm looking at taking in a 1972 Olds vert, a 1968 Charger and hopefully a 1958 Chrysler 300 convertible. A Daytona is a maybe at this point.

And I agree, I think the future of the hobby is going to be just fine. I get looks and picture takers all the time on test drives.

That's pretty cool.

A few years ago, I drove up to North Dakota (from Indiana) to pick up my '69 Charger that was sitting on my soon-to-be ex-wifes family's farm. On the way back, we stayed over in Minneapolis rather than drive all 14 hours in one shot. The next morning, I was standing out by the truck and trailer (which had the Charger on it) as a mother and her young son came walking up the sidewalk. As they walked by my parents place, the son, who appeared to be MAYBE 5 or 6 at the most, tugged on his Mom's hand and said "Look Mom! It's a Charger!!".

I just smiled and thought it was cute that not only did he like cars, .... he knew what kind it was. Heck..... A lot of adults have no idea what these older cars are. But that little 5 year old did!!  :2thumbs:

One of the rare occasions we can thank pop culture. Seems muscle cars are a staple of movies, music videos and video games. You don't see people calmering to see a 40's Desoto or a '58 Ford...there's somthing about 68-74ish muscle cars that are almost eternal  :coolgleamA:

not all the youth is that bad. Thier are some characters out there though for sure. I think everyone can appreciate a Dodge Charger the best car ever made.

I know the feeling, about two months back, I had a father (a older friend of mine) and his two kids and wife stop in at my place just so he could show his kids my charger. His boy was a fan of it you can say.

MaximRecoil

When I had my very rough '69 Charger sitting in my driveway a couple weeks ago (before taking it to my mechanic friend's garage to work on it), I was sitting out on my porch and a few kids (about 12 years old) walked by. I heard one of them say to another, "You see that car? A '69 Charger. That's what I'm going to get for my first car."

I thought it was funny because I used to say the exact same thing as a kid.

When I was a kid in the mid-'80s, '69 Chargers were only about 15 years old. I think it is interesting that ~25 years later, kids are still dreaming about cars from the same era.

morepower

Yeah. and that kid is a big dreamer because these cars are waaaay to much now. In the mid 80's you could pick one up cheap. My dad sold his 69 in 91 for like 2400 and it was super clean. Did buy my tore up 68 in 95 for 900 buuuut it needed a ton of work. I think right after that the cars really started jumping up.
