Doe's it have an automatic transmission in it now? 727 torquflite is the automatic transmission you would need for a 440. I'd like to see the bottom (underside of that car) to see how they grafted that ford crap into it.
Do you have the first 2 letter's of the vin (vehicle identification number).

hi,, right now has an engine ford with a 4 speed transmission manual, but i found a 1978 440 without transmission, anything 727 torqueflite works in this engine?? the vin  xs29l9b442199

:coolgleamA: XS   charger R/T :o    guessed it was a late build because of the tall bumper guards & chrome outer door handle buttons

as far as i know  B /RB motor all 727 torqueflites will bolt up , but there are different tail shafts one with out a provision for console shift linkage bracket , & one with  , also  short & long tail shafts ,& early ones with cable gear slection !!  i'm no expert , on 727s though & there is prolly other stuff i have forgotten about or did not know

:Twocents:  Has to be a big block 727 and long tail shaft to fit cross member and drive shaft, will be about 36 inches long.  also have to get right year and balance torque convert  to match the crank shaft,a 78 440 should be externally balanced??? best guess is to get a 727 from  b or c body cars and years say 74 to 80?? pickup and motorhomes may have same 727 if they are big block, double check and measure,36 long. up to 65 were cable shift, avoid them. and they changed front trans pump drive dogs and mid 70es external balance torque converters will not fit early years like 66 to ?72??    must have balance for crank or will have all kinds of shake and vibaration problems.dj :2thumbs:

thanks, that's useful information ,, the original was a column shifter, but i like more a floor shifter, i was thinking in a b&m megashifter,,
There is only a memory on the steering wheel

this is the engine

What is the meaning of these numbers?

HANDM

The numbers mean the 440 was built on the 31st day in august 1976,

Great find!  :2thumbs:

That is going to cost ruckloads of money to fix, not only in parts, but also freight and tax fees

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

What ever you do, don't open the doors!  Can someone please explain how in the heck that car doesn't fold downward in the middle without the roof?  Did someone slide a full frame underneath it or what?  Inquiring minds want to know......... ::)

IT LOOKS TO BE FROM A DRY COUNTRY ,SO WITH OUT LOTS OF RUST IT WILL HOLD UP .CONVERTABLES DONT HAVE ALL THAT MUCH REINFORCEMENT ,TORQUE BOXES AND FLEX WEDGE BUMPS AT TOP UPPER OF DOOR JAMS.  YOU WOULD NOT WANT TO OPEN BOTH DOORS AND HAVE 10 PEOPLE JUMPPING UP AND DOWN IN CAR,NO NO..
THE ENGINE DATE LOOKS LIKE 3 APRIL OR 8 AUGEST,,,,,,31 DAY AND YEAR OF 76 OR78... IFHAS BEEN UNCOVERED AND OPEN LIKE THAT IT NEEDS FULL TEAR DOWN CLEAN AND NEW BEARINGS,,REBUILD....

ARE YOU OUT THERE?? DID YOU FIND A TOP?? DOES IT RUN WITH FORD ENGINE>>???  GOOD LUCK.  2 GUYS HERE HAVE SHELLS WITH MAYBE USEABLE TOPS FOR SALE...DJ

It used to be a Charger, now it's a Chargerina. I don't mean to burst your bubble, but that's not even a good parts car.

I've seen far worse cars brought back. Rob Wolfe from Mopar Collectors guide would be all over this rig.... Its a One of One.... In that country anyway. I'd love to have it even though I already have a finished one.
