Color combinations are a huge factor after the powertrain and model options are factored into the equation.  :Twocents:

That is how I keep track of the rarity of my oddball cars, model then engine/transmission combo numbers.  Curse me for being analytical, but that is how I am:

I know my 1970 base model Charger (XP29C0G) is 1 of 181, 1 of 103 with the three on the tree manual for that year.  There might be as many as ten left of these, but that is only an educated guess.  As for the color combo (red/black top/charcoal), I have no idea on that.  I would still love to get my hands on a factory 500 /6 version from 1970 (even the one of one 500 SE /6!).....

I know my 1968 383-2bbl., 4-speed Charger is 1 of 74.  But, how many of those were bright red/white top/white with red inserts interior (Husker colors)?.......

What about when you find one that has no factory build numbers?  Then you have to go by how many are known.  Case in point:  I used to own a 1968 Charger 318, three on the tree manual.  Between ten and fifteen are known, with no production numbers from Dodge.  How many of those were light yellow, black top and gold interior?....

The one that has me perplexed is my HP2 Satellite.  Remember HP2 badges were given to the first 100-150 street hemi cars before switching over to regular hemi badges on Jan.1, 1966.  (That automatically sets it into the rare class.)  Since it is missing the VIN tag, I only have the fender tag and body information (SO numbers) to go off of in hunting its rarity.  It was built Dec. 15, 1965, but at what plant?  If it happens to be St. Louis, it would have been one of the very first street hemis from that plant (maybe the first one), as that was the first day of hemi production there.  If it is from the other plant, it would be more common.....

A truly rare car is one that does not need a full breakdown to get to a low production number value, it will start low from the beginning.  However, don't confuse rarity with value, they are not the same.....

It will be interesting to see how that sort of game works for future collectable cars. They document everything now. I have a 91 Formula that comes up in GM's database as "1 of 1" simply because it was the only one like it ordered by that particular dealer.

resq302

Our 70 chally vert is 1 of 99 known to be made with Alpine White paint and 1 of 137 known to be made with the red interior.  As for my charger I saw a number in Chris' (mod) about a number for power disc brake cars but I can't remember it off the top of my head.  I do know that my charger is 1 of 3500 (ish) that was made with the 383 4 bbl 4 speed combo in 1969.

Looks to me like the guy with the Torino is making fun of the one of one crowd and not stating it to make his car seem more rare...  :slap:

Not to sure.  He said some Ford expert like our Mopar Galen guy listed it that way.  I think he's serious.

Be glad you didn't go.  The Mopar guys must of thought rain was near.  The place was 1/2 empty.  I stayed just 15 mins.

Guys, step back for a second. The Torino owner was using satire. The Mustang world is extremely hung up about one-of-one. The owner was messing with the Ford extremists.

It's a putdown. It's satire.

I'll ask him next time I see him.  I think he's serious and to be honest I don't blame him.  I like the numbers game and if it was my car and I had proof I would do the same thing.  Yep.  If Galen said my car was the only Orange 69 charger, bla bla, without headrest, yeah I'd tell the world.  I will ask him though.
