I was driving my 94 truck and it died. Tried to start back up but kept dying unless i was pumping gas pedal to keep running. Acts like its running out of gas. put 5 gallons of gas in it and still does the same thing. changed the fuel filter. It is a 350 with carb. when you turn the key on you can faintly hear the fuel pump running. any comments will be greatly appreciated.

Lennard

Most likely the fuel pump, common thing on those trucks.

armyguy5207

even if i can hear the fuel pump faintly running?

Lennard

Faintly might not be enough... I have a 1990 K1500 and had the same thing. Replaced the fuel pump and it was fixed.
That's why i'm saying "most likely", hard to tell what your problem is from behind my computer.

94 should not have a carb with electric fuel pump in tank....

should be throttle body fuel injection

unless someone has changed things out and then that presents a whole different scenario for diagnosing

Lennard

My 1990 has TBI also from the factory and the fuel pump in the tank.

my bad no carb. it is throttle body injection. How do i check the fuel pressure. I took the fuel line off of the throttle body and turned key on. It looked to me it has good fuel pressure comming out of line but im not sure. need to check fuel pressure but dont know where to check it at.

you will not be able to test fuel pressure on that system without special adaptor that goes in place of fuel filter

here's what to do first...put everything you took off back on except air filter

have someone crank engine over while you look down throttle body...do you see any fuel being squirted out of the injectors? (yes or no answer here)

Is this HEI system with coil inside or outside of dist cap?

Do you have spark at any spark plug? (I assume you know how to test for spark on HEI system without shocking yerself)

Answer the above 2 questions, then we go from there depending on yer answers

ok thanks for all your help. replaced fuel pump and it fixed the problem.
