Should I paint my 68 Charger RT its original silver ???

I am going to be sending my 68 Charger off to be painted in a couple months and am wondering if I should re-paint it the original  AA1 silver or a newer silver color.   The car is 95% original and had been stored since 1976!  Its a true 440 4speed Dana car and is almost rust free.  SO,  for a car thats this original is it better to paint it the correct shade or up-date it to a newer shade??

This will be my cruiser for a few years, but,  Im sure I'll sell it later............I always do. 

So,  what would you do???

It's your car, do what you want.  :yesnod: Since you are just thinking of changing the shade you don't have to worry about changing the interior color. (Not so much if it's black.)

Personally, I like to keep it to colors available that year but what ever, it's a car and someone can always repaint it after you. Good luck with your choice, it's a beautiful car.  :drool5:

68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

keep it silver!  I love mine....its pained ppg aluminum..the origional color was uu1 blue but I didnt paint it...I went out looking for a silver one because it looks great on chargers...and you dont see very many of them...

Yes, it's your car but I'd keep it original. It's really rare (even without the ultra-rare color) and it's not like you're planning on painting it something completely different. You'll probably be using newer paints so make sure whatever you use gives the proper equivalent of the original color (most new versions of factory colors don't look right - especially metallics). If you paint it a modern shade it will be really cool as well - but it will just be a really rare car that has been modified.

The factory Silver in '68 was an extra cost option. Restoring it to the factory color will help maintain or even INCREASE its value. Since you intend to sell the car later, this will only help you.

I would go with the same color code and the newer style paint is going to be of better quality anyway... It will look good in its original shade. Silver is a great color.

I agree, paint it the color you like.  But, AA1 Silver is a great color anyway and for the future value, as others have said.

I repainted mine the original silver, and I love it. There were some nay-sayers around, but every one came back and said they were wrong, after seeing the car.

Cool,   I kinda figured the original would be what everyone would say.    Being as though the car was so nice and untampered with  I figured it should remain its factory shade.  Thanks for the response's!!! :cheers:

The AA1 silver is an awesome color!  That is definitely the one to go with.

I know of an owner of a factory silver '68 Charger R/T, 440 console automatic, black interior, black vinyl top, red bumblebee stripes.

VERY cool color combination.

...and he wants to paint it all viper red with no vinyl top.

I know he'll regret it later.

I did say do what ever you want ( ;)) but upon reflection I now say keep the color original   :yesnod: . The factory AA1 was a pretty cool color on the '68. It will add to the value and uniqueness of the car. :2thumbs:

Dude,  your car is awesome!   I've followed the re-birth and its giving me some inspiration!   I've sent pictures out (of your car) saying this is what my car is gonna look like when I get it painted! :2thumbs:
