I just put in a mopar electronic ignition conversion kit (distributor and control box) for a 318 1970 charger.  I used the original standard coil.  Now the alternator gauge goes -30 when I step on the brakes and goes even lower if I have the lights on.  And the lights also dim when hit the brakes.  Then it goes way up to +30 when I take off from a stop light.  I changed the voltage regulator but it didn't fix it. Could it be the alternator?  It is fairly new alternator.  I also noticed there is no ground strap from the block to the firewall but I have heard 1970 chargers don't have one.  Could it be a grounding issue?  This is driving me nuts!

I'll check the bulkhead out.  But why would this start suddenly after I put the electronic ignition in?  Seems like it would have something to do with that.

casuality maybe... it happens.  BAD CONEXION ( VERY TIPICAL ON MOPARS ) at black thick wire coming from alt to inside the cab makes that kind of reading. When revving up the engine, power is able to beat the resistance there due the bad quality conection. I'm not saying IS definitvely that, but something to check

Took my alternator off and had it checked at Autozone.  It was bad.  Put a new one one and it's good to go!  Thanks for the help and suggestions!

check bulkhead anyway, to prevent some dangerous fail in the future
